Gabe Antoni was selected 10th in the 9th round of the OHL Draft. Any other locals leaving the area?

Is Gabe leaving for the OHL? Usually only rounds 1-4 mean anything in the OHL draft. Anything after that the kid will probably not play, but will help his stock.

There is no way Saginaw will take a 92 goalie on their regular season roster and give hime regular minutes. It hardly ever happens, especially for a 9th round pick.

He will have a shot after next season maybe, I would guess theres a 95% chance he doesnt make the team this year. Its a huge honor, and he should be congratulated though.

Pine-Richland's Brandon Saad went 10th overall to Saginaw. He said no to the NTDP, along with many other top players, and will be in the OHL this season or next.

John Parker from the Rockets was drafted in 2nd round by Saginaw. I heard he will be playing in the OHL next season.

John Carlson was also drafted in the 2nd by London. I heard that talks have been in place since last December on bringing him to the OHL, and he will be going to London not UMASS.

Several other local kids were drafted in the latter rounds.

Most young kids drafted will not play, even though your drafted you have to go and tryout and make the team. They own your rights.

Theres a much better chance of a latter round pick in the USHL draft making the team and playing. The OHL draft is mostly kids from a single birthyear from a certain territory. USHL is not. Plus many OHL teams take flyers on kids, who may never report due to losing their NCAA eligibility. USHL pplayers dont lose eligibility.

October is Futures, and theres only a limited amount of time you can hold a players rights. I believe players from only 2 birth years can be selected too. Theres only 4 rounds too. I can ask a few scouts I know who are very familiar with the league in the midwest for more information if you would like.

All you have to do is goto the USHL website and click on the information about the drafts. Then you want to see the reality of it just click on the rosters for the teams and see for yourself how the rosters panned out for each age group.

hgp you are correct on length of rights between the two drafts, I can't remember exactly the numbers but I think its on the USHL website.

Not sure if you guys saw or not, but Adam Schmidt was drafted 99th in the USHL draft on May 20 by the Sioux City Musketeers. Not sure if he's going to Sioux City or Northwood Prep.
