I don't think its poor sportsmanship compared to what went on at the end of and after the HH game, that was out of hand

I warned the Henderson coaches before the game that that was going to happen. It is ridiculous!!!!!!!
A few years ago when Radnor won it and the West refused to give up the trophies citing that "The West paid for them" I thought that wasnt a good reason....but atleast it was a reason. From what I was told the East (Flyers Cup Committee) then sent a check for half of what the three trophies cost....making them dualy owned. I went to bat for Henderson as did Rich Kearns (President of the EHSHL) to get them THIER trophy, but we were unsuccessful. Sorry Guys! I can't explain why....I just know that is a bunch of crap! |

Well don't leave us all hanging... What went on???
Hats off to the Freeport players! Not only did the teams exchange handshakes at the games end, each Freeport player & coach circled back through the Henderson line after receiving thier medals and shook each players hand a 2nd time. Great Sportsmanship! |

True the Henderson-Freeport game was played with class on both sides, hard earned win for Henderson, Lattas 2 breakaway goals were verrry pretty. Henderson took a risk hanging Latta so high while on the PK but their coaches trusted lattas speed and playmaking ablility and he came up huge on the first 2 goals of the game and gave his team a boost of confidence going into the locker room before the 3rd.

Oh, my bad.
Campli and the Hazelton's threw a little tantrum at the end of the game. It was unfortunate, but I've seen much worse. |

Quick sum up of the end of the HH game
They were down by 2 and Coyle laid a hard check onto a P-R player in the PR zone, Coyle was given misconduct and I think after that the entire HH squad just imploded. Not sure what order but there was a scrum behind the HH net and I think 2 players were ejected (Campli and someone else) and than following a missed breakaway goal the HH goalie just exploded and sort of when after a P-R player and was given a misconduct. I think in the goalies case he just was upset because he didn't play the game he was capable of playing and was frustrated with him and just let it all out. Not sure what happened behind the net but it did look like HH players were the ones who should have been given misconducts, I am sure there were words being exchanged between both teams but from the stands you can see words you can just see pushes. One of the players given misconduct flipped over a trashcan when he came off the ice, which I thought was a class-less way to end his hockey career. All and all the HH kids just acted like kids on the ice and it’s a shame because they made a great comeback after being down 4-0. IT just seems like every time HH started to make a comeback P-R scored at just the right time. The only thing that I thought was disgraceful was some of the HH fans were walking out of the rink while the P-R players were walking back to their locker room and the HH fans started trash talking, so naturally the P-R players were talking back. I am just wondering what the HH fans could have possible been saying as a P-R player was literally carrying the trophy the HH team didn’t win, what can you say to a team that beat you, and more so after your team acted rather immature on the ice in the last two minutes. I have great respect for Coach Clearly and all of the HH players, and I figure they will take this as me attacking them, which I am not doing. I am just pointing out what I saw and my opinion on it. |

I guess henderson (or somebody from the east) will just have to win it again, and take the trophy and run with it... but its not about the trophy, yes its nice to have, but its the accomplishment of winning a state title is more important to the players and the fans

Well this could be the funniest thing I heard all day.
I just got a call from one of my Pittsburgh connections. He was driving back on the turnpike and saw a white van pulled over on the shoulder.....apparently, the van doors flew open (The van carrying the trophies that is) and at least one of the trophies fell out of the van at full speed. Poetic justice? |

That deal with the West "owning the trophies" is a joke! I blame the West people for acting like children with their toys who don't know how to share. I also blame our "leadership" in the East for allowing this to continue.
It's a crime that Henderson or any of the champs for that matter don't skate off the ice with the trophy and keep at their school for the year. They have fought so hard for the past season for that honor and are deprived of it because a bunch of selfish, childish "adults" don't realize or care how much the kids deserve it. And not only don't they get to carry it off the ice, they have some little Pittsburgh weasel telling them what to with it the short time it was in their possession while on the ice. C'mon someone couldn't tie that little man up and put him in a closet somewhere for a couple hours!! My money says none of those guys who "own" those trophies ever played the game or know what it means to win at this level!!! Sorry, but the West should be ashamed of themselves (forgot they have no shame) and so should we here in the East for continually allowing this to happen. Why do we let them dictate everything?? Time for the people in charge in the East to stand TOGETHER and finally get this wrong made right!! |

being a player on HHS we fought through a lot this yr on our way to another state champpionship, 3 yrs in a row we went down that takes a toll on players especially our seniors. Campli, coyle, and hazelton all got miscounducts at the end really out of frustration with the outcome and the refereeing was questionable down the stretch. All 3 play with more heart than any1 out there and they are 3 of the best team mates i've ever played with when your high school career ends with 3 flyers cups n no state title that sucks so unless you've been in that situation which you haven't because its never happened before stop talkin like you know what was goin on in their heads hockeys an emotional game and everything gets left on the ice

He looked like a spotter on a cheerleading squad.....chasing the trophy around on the ice with his hands up behind it in case it fell backwards. |

I understand the frustration, and it sucks to come up empty handed. There are plenty of teams who come up short, it happens every game a team loses. Most of the time teams lose without losing control. I heard some of the HH crowd complain about the reffing (which is something I have become used to seeing as every geame there is some new complaint as a few NOT ALL but a few walk out of the rink) but i did not see any questionable calls that would have changed the outcome of that game. HH fought back the whole game and played hard and with class until the last two mintues. Losing does not give you a free pass to thorw a tantrum.

jigga beef; I would just like to say that i am a member of the haverford team and have won 3 flyers cup but no state championship. I would just like to say that i agree with you completely with the antic of some of the members of our team. Campli is a great player and really deserved a state championship same goes for coyle. Jimmy Hazelton (not the goalie) plays with more emotion than anyone else on the ice. when push comes to shove we just didn't play that good, and i think that is what everyone was disappointed about. As a team we knew we could beat them we just didn't do what we needed to. But anyway I think at the end of the game the antics of certain players were unneccissary, it was a state championship game and we weren't not just representing our selves but our school and also eastern pennsylvania. So in conclusion i would just like to say thankyou to our fans for a great season and thankyou to our seniors it has been a pleasure playing with you the past few years.
