plym20 your pertty one sided with your team playing keep away. i believe ryan gave your team all they could handle in the first period. actually your parents appeared a little concerned. second period i believe was a little close also 4-2 before ryan self destructed how many power play goals were scored after that. the way you tell it your kid dominated the whole team. boy is he great now only if he new how to pass the puck. i guess there is noone out there on ryans team that played as hard as your kid or can compare to your kid. rayan has some pretty good players and with all the team has been through ( 7 coach changes) is in a pretty good position in the AAA standings and if these new coaches knew how to shorten the bench a little instead of worrying about hurting feelings both kids and parents, this team would be better off. i don't think you have a great team, yes it is a good team. the difference is they are well coached. so keep on talking and bragging about your kid and the greatest team ever and it will be even sweeter to see them eliminated when they should win it, same as last year. a bunch of dads bragging about their kids on this board. things are good now that you are on top.

This post is hysterical. First off, I have no kid on the La Salle roster. I played at La Salle many years ago, hate the NHL, so follow local HS and Midwestern College hockey. Secondly, to say "Ryan gave La Salle all they could handle the first period"...umm, what? yes, the score was 1-1. the shots were also 16-2 with one of the Ryan shots coming from over 120 feet away. Olivieri had a nice rush that got broken up but he pounced on a loose puck and stuffed it in for the one goal. Nice hustle play. But where was the "all they could handle".
The seven coaches makes sense. I thought Ryan's bench coach made a few odd decisions, beginning with him yelling at a defenseman in the first period that if he didn't want to play he should just leave, followed by the timeout and pulling of the starting goalie (who had given up 4 goals but had also made 22 saves at that point), culminating with the 5 minute stand off of not putting his team on the ice after the Ryan player got thrown out, and as an encore continuing to play the #21 player to the final whistle after he had specifically been out to head hunt on two shifts in a row (yet as soon as he got the puck wanted to get rid of it ASAP). Perhaps that was what the coaching staff was after at that point. Regardless, the lack of any sort of experience definitely showed through with both the conditioning and discipline of the team. But the fact that La Salle put up 9 on them and didn't shoot the puck for the last 6 minutes (yet still managed 55 shots) kind of tells you it was one-sided, don't you think?
I stand with what I said. Ryan was out coached no game plan for the team prior to the game, no pep talk no nothing, just get out there and play the #1 team. These 2 coaches have club teams in AAA and AA leagues thats what aggravates me most. This team also has a number of good players 2 that are in the top 10 scoring in the leauge. 1 being a defensmen. It gets people pis--d off when all you read about is how no one can compete with your team or how great they are. I still believe this is a bunch of ypur team parents bragging. Let me end this by saying nothing wrong with being a little humble some time. Remember last season.
People have complained about Ryan's coaching for years. The board just has to make the right decision for next season. Ryan does have a talented team, however they should have had a better game plan and discipline from game 1.
They really arent much different from the GA team 2 years ago that lost in the Flyers Cup finals, or the North Allegheny team that won states last year in terms of talent of the players and depth. Where they are different is GA and NA were extremely disciplined, and had a system that worked to their players strengths in order to get the most out of them.
GA had one great player, Brian O'Neill, that they moved back to defense, let him create offense, and the rest of the team played a defensive forecheck and capitalized on their opponents mistakes. The rest of the team was a collection of hard working players, who forechecked, stayed out of the box, played defensively, and played the positions where the coach told them to go. Ryan could easily do this with Olivieri. Hes not as talented offensively as O'Neill, but hes pretty close, and hes better defensively, and Ryan has a much supporting cast on defense. Olivieri should be on the ice almost the whole game, let him create, and hang your center back with the other defenseman almost like a trap. I think Ryan is a deeper and more talented team top to bottom then that GA team was too.
Another thing, Ryan's best goalie is probably Tyler George, and hes on JV.

Having played at Ryan, it sounds as if nothing has changed. Their talent will go in cycles. However, when the talent builds up to where they will be competitive, the coach will get fired when some parent or parents gets p_ _ _ed off because their child isn't being played enough. The parents forget it is a team sport. Or the parents will get a coach that they can manipulate and/or the coach hasn't a speck of hockey smarts. The result will be a team that isn't disciplined and will try to separate your head from your body with a huge hit. If they can't beat you on the score board, then they will just beat you physically.
I find it funny that Father Judge is almost made up of the same type of player (blue collar kid, hard nosed, and hungry to win), but Judge, when they have equal talent to Ryan, will always win because they will get "out coached." Bill Connors has been at Judge for 26 years and parents don't have much say in the way he runs things. Guess what? He has turned Judge into a consistent champion. Nice job, Coach Connors. Maybe the parents at Ryan should finally shut up and hire a smart coach.
hgp fan I also agree with you. Too many egos on this team and the coaches are to worried about backlashes from parents on playing time. Coaches don't know how to utilize anyone on the team. Olivieri is a very talented player and puts up alot of points for his team but unfortunately the coaches have not yet figured this out and have the mentality of the players thinking this is just high school hockey.
Rayans hired 2 coaches Weller who coaches comcast 18u AAA who's team is 5 and 15. The other coach is hunter who coaches bristol blazers AA and is the most penalized team in the league and is known for their undisciplined team. Both have son's on the team. Do I need to explain further.

I must admit - one reason I went to the game last night (other than the rink being 10 minutes from my house) was to see olivieri - knowing that he was one of the "other guys" on the VFMM team. Thought it would be interesting to see who the kid was, what he was about, etc. Was very impressed, although at times I think he was a little out of position, but that was mainly caused by him trying to be the offense as well as the defense. I wouldn't blame him much on that, to be honest they have some other skilled players but he is head and shoulders above the rest of the team. the knock on the coaches that I posted before pale in comparison to this one, which I forgot. At the end of the 1st there was a face off with 12 seconds left in the neutral zone. Coach made a smart choice and pulled Olivieri off to give him a little more of a breather with the end of the period coming up, even though he had only been out on the ice for a half a minute. However, Olivieri didn't start the second period, and also didn't play on the second shift of the second period. It was almost 4 minutes in before he saw his first shift of the 2nd period, and I believe that was on a penalty kill. I was almost beginning to wonder if he was hurt. Why do you leave your best player on the bench for an extended period of time? I agree with the poster above, he should be seeing 25-30 minutes a night. He was one of the few kids on that bench that had any jump in the last ten minutes, except for the kid trying to take runs at the La Salle players.
As for the poster above who played at Ryan, referring to Ryan's history of "if they can't beat you on the scoreboard they'll beat you up physically" - I'm glad someone else said it, because I was thinking it all last night. That goes back as far as when I used to play aginst them from '88-'91. We used to hate playing Ryan, because although we never lost to them, we knew the cheap shots were coming eventually. Dougherty was similar, as was Abington and Carroll.

I had the EXACT same discussion with someone on Thursday night at the Eastern league's allstar game. I brought up the point of Judge and Ryan kids being from the same general area and that you hardly hear of Judge being dirty or cheap. And he brought up the point that Judge has had the same coach for a long time.
I also will say the only time i saw Judge play this year, i was impressed with the parents in the stands. Meaning always yelling positive things to their kids or kids on the team, and cheering very loudly but never obnixious.

Maybe all the hockey clubs should adopt the rule that "If anyone fights, parents included, their child will be forced out of the program."
