Friar00: that was St Josephs Prep II you beat 7-1... Malvern II would not have been a happy camper on the ice vs Prep's AAA team. |

When midget major teams beat junior A teams, does that make them junior A? It doesnt matter anymore, there are no V2s, and there is now an very competetive JV AAA division. |

Yes, I know Carl. It may have been poorly stated but my point was that I didn't believe that Sjostrom and Napoli would make a big difference at AAA since they were shut down at at the A level. |

They both played on the AAA team their freshman years.

Neither Napoli or Sjostrom played in that game nor did either one dress for a single V2 game. |

In the Canadian Major Juniors (OHL, QMJHL and WHL), players are given a small stipend for living expenses, etc. Once they receive that money, they are no longer considered eligible by the NCAA because they are being "paid for the hockey services." In fact, players like Eric Lindros had an endorsement contract and he made several hundred thousands before he was ever drafted in the NHL.
When the USHL first started in the early 1980's, the majority of the players had already graduated high school and were playing Junior A in the USHL for exposure. Several friends explained to me that they billeted with a family for 2 years, got a part-time job and played hockey thus permitting them to keep their NCAA eligibility. As of today, I'm pretty sure the USHL is still run the same way with the only exception being they are taking younger players with high school eligibility. The players who did not complete high school, would attend the local high school in the town they played for and have to remain eligible academically. Most USHL have "academic tutors" that check on the players' academic standing. |
