Wow, PV 12-3 over 'Stoga? I know Mazda floats around these forums, and I'm not insulting or blaming you at all, but I was just curious if you had any thoughts about what went wrong?
Oddly enough, I played open hockey tonight with one of the coaches of West Chester Henderson, so I knew their score. He was a goalie for Duquesne University and graduated last year? We talked a bit about Henderson and Ridley and prospects for Flyers Cup and the remainder of the playoffs. He seemed like a pretty nice guy. |

Did Henderson win the game ? As a coach at a varsity level sport you MUST play to win and play your best players to get to that result . Last years result was a Flyers Cup Championship and a State Title wasn't it . The only sport where everyone gets on the ice, field, or coart equally,is intramurals .

This isn't JVA anymore, if you have the ability and talent to run 2 lines, why not? Running 4 lines is tough, players can't get into a rythm on the ice, your top players only play a quarter of a game, makes on-ice matchups harder, and most likely more loses because those 4th liners are going to make mistakes. Honestly can you seriously find one Varsity team that plays all they're players equally?
I love high school hockey parents, by their standards, coaches not only do you have to win, but you have to win and play they're son. You have arguably the best public school team in PA and still it's not good enough. If you want you kid to play more, send him back to JV. |

Agreed the goal is to win games and of course there cannot be equal play time for all. But 2 players playing the entire game while the rest get a shift here and there shows a general lack of confidence in the teams ability to win as a whole. I don't think this is just a playoff thing...sounds like Henderson ran their bench this way the entire season no matter how big their lead was. I'm pretty sure there are more than just 2 returning players that helped win Flyers Cup & States last year

He played more then two players... Latta and Cottle are talented players, but I'm sure they didn't play two on five every game all game. So that's at least 8 more guys that got regular shifts. And I'm sure they didn't run just two lines all game every game so other players got in too. Basically the third and fourth line didn't see regular shifts. I mean Henderson isn't the only team that has ever done that.
I'm sure if hockey4u's son was on that top line he wouldn't be complaining about "the team" not playing. That's secret parent code for "my kid". Again, want an equal shift, play JV. |

I find this thread hilarious. And I generally have no connection or knowledge about this league or team. But my impressions are:
The coach does what he needs to do to win the game by playing his two best players (not to mention a State Championship last year) and still gets crap from a parent because he isn't playing ALL of the players (a coaching move that could have cost him the game). I guess the guy is stuck in a catch-22. If I were him, I'd probably take the option that will definitely win the game: playing the 2 dominating players. You say that it shows a "lack of confidence" in the rest of his players. Did you ever stop to think that maybe he actually does have a lack of confidence in the rest of his players? Does that hurt your feelings? I'll end by quoting PondHockey11: "If you want your kid to play more, send him back to JV." |

Ok I dont know if you where actually at the game but if you where pay attention. First of all Latta and Cottle only had 2 goals. The other two where scored by Magee and Kinkead, both guys who are not on there lines. 2nd look at the points in the game. Zucker had more than Latta. 3rd if you where at the game the line of Wallace, Ramundo, Kinkaed played a good portion of the game and the third line of Matthews Magee and Speroff also played there share. Plus I guess whoever your a fan of isnt a dman since Blaker played more than anyone in the game. If your going to complain at least dont be biased.
This is a Playoff at a high school varsity level. If he wants to play a single line for the whole rest of the season he should, its only a 45 min game! With power plays and penalty kills in the league that takes up about 25 mins of the game average. So thats only 20 mins 5 on 5. Your smart if you condense your skill players into two lines and ride them to the win. This message has been edited. Last edited by: raha127, |

If you look at the way Henderson played this season you would see that everyone played. Some more than others. Of course Cottle, Latta, and Blaker played large chunks of time, they're at the top. Henderson's luck is that they go to Henderson! Cottle and Latta have accounted for 40% of the goals for Henderson. 60% of the goals come from the rest of the team.
If a AAAA Varsity Football coach has a star running back that gains 2-3000 all purpose yards per year his opponents will get a steady diet of the running back until their teeth fall out. Hendersons' opponents are getting a steady diet of Cottle, Latta, and Blaker. Next year may be somebody elses turn. |

Help me out here guys.....having a hard time following this thread. How did it go from Boraske meeting a Henderson coach to the amount of playing time each player gets?

Ah, yes --- The Perkiomen Valley/Conestoga game. I am an admitted Perk. Valley partisan. That, combined with PV's 2 narrow victories over Conestoga in the Christmas Tourney, led me to anticipate this game as a toss-up, with perhaps a very slight edge to PV (my sentimemtality over-ruling Conestoga's desire for revenge).
Well...I, and everyone else in the full-house crowd, was STUNNED! Imagine a boxing match where one fighter comes running out of his corner at the openning bell and decks the opponent with a quick right and a quick left. The opponent gets up and continues, but, for all intents and purposes, the fight is virtually over. That's pretty close to what happened. The PV offense simply swarmed over the ice, getting off around 33-34 shots, of which 12 found the back of the net. At the same time, Conestoga got off 27-28 shots of their own, netting 3. Both teams were in the offensive zone with regularity...it was end-to-end hockey. PV got goals from all lines, from all directions. Wes Mazda may not have brought his "A" game, but neither did he let in any particularly soft goals. He and his defense were simply overwhelmed. Perk. Valley goaltender Rob Sutherland probably only had his "A-/B+" game with him last night, but he was very steady and made a number of spectacular saves when Conestoga might have conceivably begun to try to get back into it. But, the long and the short of it is that the game was PV's before the end of the first period. Conestoga didn't come ont flat, PV simply came out on fire. The 12-3 final score, while obviously indicative of the score, isn't representative of a lot of other things. It WAS an end-to-end game from start of finish, each team got around 30 shots on goal, and good scoring chances. But, when Perkiomen Valley was on the attack, Conestoga just coundn't stop them. |

Ha..my meeting with the Henderson coach really had nothing to do with anything. I just thought I'd throw that in and then like 6 people started flipping about ice time. hhfan, sounds pretty crazy. Twelve goals on 34 shots isn't great, but if not of them were really soft, then you can't blame Mazda. Thanks for the details, and congrats to PV. |

Boraske - Crazy? NO ONE expected that kind of blow-out. No one. I'm sure the players on both teams came into the game with the thought that they'd win. But every one of them would have laughed out loud at the idea that either team would win 12-3, as would have every single fan in the stands. It really was stunning.
And to reinforce what you said, Mazda didn't have a prayer. He has had an excellent season and, to his credit, he played the entire game with class, never blowing up at his teammates, smashing his stick on the ice, etc. But throughout the whole game, if there was a sliver of open net, the PV shooters put the puck right there. Mazda did everything he could possibly have done under the circumstances. |
