it was probably one of the best games ive seen in a while both teams played well. In the SHSHL there's no real "upsets" every team is pretty even. should be a good series Pennridge-CB South.

Hardest loss I've had in a long time. Pennridge took advantage of the opportunities they had. We (NP) just couldn't cash in on our opportunities.

In a previous post I predicted that Pennridge was a "sleeper" in the SHSHL playoffs. The reason is quite simple Reago is a good coach and his players have bought into his system. They know they have to play a certain way to be competitive. They believe! Good luck to both Pennridge and CB South, it should be a good series.

If you talk to any parents in the SHSHL I don't think they'll agree.

well then how come that among the starting goalies in the SHSHL north you have a better save percentage than only 2 of them....cb west and mcdevitt?????

Different teams give up different shots. Mcdevitt and West both give up alot of shot. My team gives up less shots because of the defensive strategy we play. However we have cracks in our system that give up high quality shots. Of the three goals Pennridge scored last night One was a Moyer breakaway and another was a rebound goal to a wide open foreward. Goalies can only do so much. This is a team sport. They have to work as a unit. My team is more offensive than defensive. teams like Pennridge give up shots but from outside the dots. Save percentage doesn't show quality only quantity. I may not have the best save percentage but I was selected to both Allstar teams for a reason.

If you take out the first CB Sout game when I was sick and take away the AAA games that none of the other teams in our league played my save percentage is much different.

I actually think it's sort of the opposite. Goals against average shows quantity, and can be lopsided if your team is really bad. Save percentage is a much better measure of the quality of a goaltender whereas I'd say his goals against more or less measures "quantity." A goaltender on a bad team can still make 42/46 shots a game and have a .920 and a 5.834 goals against average, and you know he's a damn good goalie.

It may be hard to statistically judge goaltenders, but if you can't go on GAA, you have to rely on save percentage so...

I would rely more on save percentage if I knew that the scorekeepers kept accurate shot counts.....some do, most don't.

You can't fudge a G.A.A. but it is very easy to be innacurate with save percentages.

True, but a bad goaltender on a good team can lead the league in GAA, but is still allowing 1 goal on 7 shots per game. On the other hand, a goalie on a bad team can give up 6 goals a game but make 54 saves in the process. Which goalie is better?

Though I agree on the percentage being unreliable because a lot of scorekeepers really do not know what they're doing, or they just don't care. I can remember specifically this season, one game I was given at least 10 more shots than I thought, and the next game, given at least 10 less than I thought. Who knows...

I usually don't decide who is better by looking at their stats....I watch them play and make my decision based on what I see. Do I look at the stats....of course, but I can tell who is "better" based on what I see on the ice, not what the stats tell me.

Definitely agree. Like I said earlier, the quality of a goalie can be difficult to gauge from statistics alone. Especially when statistics (thanks to scorekeeprs and lopsided competition) can be faulty.

A trained, objective eye is surely a much better judge of who is "better."

Isn't that Flyers cup meeting in like... 10 hours, Matt?

What other high school sport has such great league websites with stats, game results, etc? None, only in hockey are there web sites where anyone can go to and get info on any player or team. I think this is one aspect of high school hockey that other sports should follow. I also believe that leagues should take stats that are posted on the web more seriously. They should pay someone to do the score keeping and clock instead of having random biased parents do it.

Allornothing,
I agree completely, if that were the case I would put more stock into save percentage and even assists.

Boraske,

Yes, I am in crunch time, trying to find a way to get Ridley a FC bid :-)
