This season two local high school alumni have been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.

- Chad Kolarik - University of Michigan (LaSalle)
- Barry Goers - U-Mass Lowell (Council Rock North)

They are in the process of selecting the top 10 candidates. We can actually help these two candidates by voting for one of them.

Has Eastern PA HS hockey ever had multiple candidates in the past?

I dont think so. I cant even think of 1 guy that was a finalist. I dont think Goes has a shot but Chad could actually win it.

You guys know Hobey Baker was born in Philly though?

I don't know if Mike Richter was either a finalist or nominated, but I do know that Ray Staziak (U of Illinois-Chicago & AB Ryan) was a finalist back in the 80's.

Actually, Eastern PA has a Hobey Baker winner.

In the 30's Robert Nilon of Ridley Park won the award.

Where did you read that? The first Hobey Baker Award was given to Neal Broten in 1981. By the way, Tony Voce (Archbishop Ryan) was in the running for the Hobey Baker several years ago.

Steve was just a kid back in the 30's, give him a break, the award was probably called something else back then.
