wow, just got back from the henderson vs freeport game... very exciting with nice goals comen from both goalies... latta had 3 goals, 2 of them short handed break aways, nothing much the goalie can do about that... Mattern played awsome once again stopping many shots right infront of the goal, the freeport goalie was also reallly good, but 1 on 1 latta is most likely going to put it in... cottle, latta, mattern, and blaker all steped up and played well in the biggest game of the season, and the whole rest of the team steped up. It was an awsome win for henderson... Repeat next year??

What a great game for Henderson today! Great that is if you're a Henderson and/or a PA East fan. Henderson played everybody and everybody on the team played well. The team was especially good at the defensive end with stellar goaltending by Robert Mattern (1 GA, late in the game), the blueliners broke the puck out of the D Zone consitently and got the puck moving up ice to their forwards. The forwards penetrated the Yellowjackets zone with great passing, or using the dump and chase. When Henderson was in the O Zone (Being in the ozone has been their favorite persona all year, no one took them too seriously.)they controlled the play for huge chunks of time. I'd have to say that while giving Freeport credit for getting there Henderson had too many competencies in all their lines, they didn't care who was out there, they were confident the whole game. Henderson is blessed to have 2 forwards that play on another planet than everyone else, Alex Cottle and Billy Latta. And I'd have to say that Rob Mattern rocketed up to the highest level of play that you can ask in a goaltender. The Henderson Varsity A Ice Hockey team is the stealth hockey underdog that snuck up on everyone and surprised them!

Hi,

By now I'm sure that evryone figures I'm a stealth hockey underdog homey. It's true, I bleed maroon for some stupid reason. Did you know that the Freeport/Pittsburgh contingent would not allow the Henderson team, winners of the "A" State Championship game keep the State Championship trophy? They refused to let the coaches have the trophy, put it in their car and left. I'm confused, doesn't the winner of the championship get to keep the hardware? What's up with that? It's more insulting than the PA West reputation of contemptuous disdain for PA East Hockey. In fact it smacks of poor sportsmanship. What kind of message is that supposed to send to our future leaders? Can anyone illuminate the logic behind a refusal to let a champion have their rightful claim to the state trophy?

Thanks,

MOOOSE1
