This may not be a complete list, but at Perk. Valley, where hockey is run by a separate board, the school newspaper regularly reports on both up-coming games and game results, often accompanied by articles about certain games. In addition, in the daily school announcements, up-coming games are announced with time and location and scores of games are announced the day after games. The hockey teams are the Vikings, like all other PV teams.
All in all, The administration, faculty, and student body are very aware of and supportive of the Hockey team. They all consider it to be a varsity sport.
I hope this is helpful.

West Chester East recognizes the sport - (this year) which means players follow school eligibilty rules with regard to discipline and grades - (2 grades under a 70 - cant play), suspended, etc....cant play until all punishments/sanctioned served.
we get Varsity letters..

at one point - before we were acknowledged - we bought the letters and gave them out at the banquet.

If the school can only sanction you and not contribute anything but the same rules other sports follow(but the school funds those sports and not hockey), you are better off buying letters.

i think east board did it so the players can put it on their college applications...im sure kids were putting it on anyway....

What ice ice baby says for WC East is also true for WC Henderson. I'd venture to guess the same is true for Rustin as all three teams are in the West Chester Area School District. The last two years the Henderson Athletic Office was very interactive with the Henderson Ice Hockey Club.

Thanks to everybody so far : HHfan Does PV get letters? I offered to pay for them out of my own pocket last year but I was shot down . This year , the AD is thinking about it , so I guess that is a plus.

Sun Valley gets varsity letters but the school does not sponsor hockey. We are not premitted to use the school weight room the school has only announced 2 or 3 games this year (every game is announced for other sports). We must abide by the schools acidemic policy with regard to elgilibity. The school newspaper had published a story on only one game in my entire 3 years. There are usually more people on the ice than in the stands for our games

The school considers us a club probably because it dosen't want to pay the costs of hockey (The school currently has a massive debt due to a new statue, rennovations and new science labs, air conditioners that don't spew mold, a non-leaking roof, a new football field, an incompleted track, and a major embezzlement scandal by our old school board and former superintendent).

Go to this website (www.neffco.com) and find the representative for your area. They supply Varsity letters to many high schools and hockey teams in the area.

At Haverford High School, hockey is run by a separate board but recognized by the school. It is a varsity club sport with varsity letters and certificates. On occasion, we have been given a school bus to transport the team and or fans to games. Teachers and administrators have been seen at the games cheering on the team. I believe we get fifteen hundred dollars from the school board to support our team and the parent's are responsible for everything else. We do follow PIAA rules and regulations as far as eligibility requirements

Penncrest gets letters, is in the yearbook, receives the same recognition as other teams. We follow eligibility and attendance like other athletes. I also teach there so it's easy logistically for us to do it. We're a club sport run by a separate board.

Lower Merion has been recognized as a varsity sport since the early 80s. Kids get letters and certificates which the district pays for. There is a board but they work closely with the AD. The district pays a coaches salary for the head varsity, assistant varsity and junior varsity coaches. The AD interviews and hires ALL coaches not the board. District also busses varsity and JV players to ALL practices and games and give a nice chunk of change to the program. They are in the year book, on morning announcements, in the school newspaper, etc. It's a nice set up and has been for a while.

Anyone in the Suburban League care to comment?

At Hatboro-Horsham we are a separate club with our own board. We do get yearbook space and the school will announce scheduled games and results if we get it to them. We are allowed to post and distribute recruiting materials. No varsity letters, no buses, no funding. But we are working on the letters and buses and have been given some hope in that regard. The AD does want to see what other schools are doing so some Suburban responses would help our cause here.
