They may mean nothing to you...but by my observations, the first page people turn to when the new Breakaway comes out is the rankings page.

Matt.........do you know the dates of the Flyer's cup, begins and ends when?

You will find many D-1 players coming from non hockey hotbeds because many of the top club teams from those areas travel every other weekend. PF Changs midget major in Phoenix costs 10 grand. They are ranked in the top 10, and already have a 92 that is committed to Colorado College. Im sure if an organization around here charged 10 grand and travelled everywhere, more kids would be going off to better teams. Thats an awful large amount of money for hockey, especially considering it will cost you a couple thousand more on top of that 10 grand. |

Trim,
The rankings are put out as OPINIONS. I know you don't feel people should have opinions or should have "incorrect" ones, but that's what they are. If you don't like them, don't look at them!!! They are to agree and disagree with, to discuss and give opinions about. That's what we do here, give opinions not supress them. Even if we'd like to in your case, yours are allowed as well, as misguided as I feel they are. Just an OPINION!! We as readers and posters on this site don't have that option with you. We continually have to see your bitching and moaning posts about everything from your over estimation of your son's game to your spewing of how inferior High School hockey is. This is a HIGH SCHOOL discussion board, we are aware there is more talent at the club level but it doesn't mean that the players, coaches / coaching and organizations are inferior across the board. I know a lot of coaches who do to the extensive weekend / time committments, can't coach club but would love to and are as good as any, and in several cases better than what's put out at the club level. Why don't you go to the Junior and Club boards and teach them the game of hockey as you have done such a good job of here. Just like many of the coaches who had to deal with you in the present and the past must have felt but never said...Just go away!!!!! Is this GoodNightGoodHockey reincarnate or what?? |

hgpfan,
Some of those programs cost upto $25,000 per player, some get sponsorship to bring the price down but yes you will still shell out a ton of money. But you will also find teams in this area spending $10,000 a year after club tuition fees and cost to travel all over. But if the kid loves to play hockey and you have the money to burn why not right? Hopefully spending all that money kept the kid busy, healthy, out of trouble and maybe he will even play some college hockey. Not counting all experiences he will have to remember. |

I love this discussion about how bad HS Hockey is ?
The Majority of ALL players play it and pay for it and they end up going to ACHA colleges and playing with who ? Players from other HS Hockey Programs ! This just in .......Amateur or Club Hockey are All Star Teams and High School Teams are people you spend every day with and go to school with and maybe like being with. All the rest is a bunch of Kool-Aid Drinkers who live out of Mini Vans, Airports and Hotels and spend their retirement chasing a dream ! If you are good enough they will find you and if youre talented enough you might make it and if you didn't spend so much time bad mouthing your High School teams, maybe just maybe those people would support your endeavors ! The best one I saw was a High School Developmental Team with a Mite AA, Mite A Major and a first year Mite A Minor on the same line. The Mite AA kid skated the puck up and down the ice and scored a goal and no assists never passed nor did he look to pass, the Mite A Major kid passed the puck to both players and played both ends of the ice and he had a goal and two assists and the 1st year Mite Player passed the puck, backchecked, skated his butt off and scored four goals and two assists.....what's the point......I'll let you know how they turn out in 8-9 years.....so stay tuned !!! |

Great answer Truth be told playing a lot of games doesn't make a player better. . . lots of practice makes a player better. Look no further than the NHL players saying the same thing. |

Bad Johnny,
You can have OPINIONS, who cares? I'm not supressing them. I was just pointing out to PA Hockey the value of the lists, he said it himself. He had Lasalle Ranked #1 last year but in the end they lost so the ranking/list meant nothing. I never said anything bad about high school coaches, the problem with high school hockey isn't the coaches. It' high school hockey in general in this area, like it or not thats a fact. Players leave.. some before they even get to high school, some during high school and some wait until they are done all depending on what oppurtunities they have available to them. I state these OPINIONS hoping things change for the better and I'm not dillusional about it. There is a huge gap in high school hockey compared to other areas. MN (the extreme) for example has high school kids not playing club who get to DIV1 and USHL right from high school. I don't think we would ever get that far because cost is much cheaper and the number of players in the state aren't even close to here. Majority of kids don't choose what high school they attend based on the high school hockey team. Most kids choose the high school for friends, convenience, education and cost. Most high school hockey players don't care about the lists, the state finals, etc. They care about playing with their friends and going to school with their friends, those who care will go pay big money and try to join a Malvern or Lasalle. As for over estimation of my sons game, that is your opinion but what weight does that carry from an anonymous message board poster? You got it nothing, especially because I never said my son should be on a list. |

The rankings are based on past performance....(the games that have already been played) We are not predicting the future when we do the rankings....we are giving you our opinion based on what we have seen up to that point. |

PAhockey,
What does any of that have to do with high school hockey being good or bad? The reality is most kids who dominate at Mite, might not dominate at Squirt, they also may not even be playing hockey at Peewee when the hitting starts. I have watched many players dominate at younger ages because of size and skating abilities, but as they get older kids catch up and the gap closes. The game changes as you get older. Then you don't even notice these kids. FlyersFan, I agree with you about the practice, more practice and less games. It just hard to find clubs/teams who will do this. Many teams are driven by games. Since you say teams should practice more, how many High school teams keep a 1:1 or 2:1 practice:game ratio? My sons club team did this at PeeWee minor, practiced 3-4 times a week and played a tournament once a month. It was great for development and cheaper than driving up and down the east coast for games. But not many teams are like that. The cost for tournaments equals what you would pay for any other club team that traveled to tournaments. Btw, If I was the parent you say I was, I would have found a way to send my son to Lasalle or forced him to O'Hara for what usually is a better high school hockey team. I live between O'Hara and Bonner, half his friends went to Bonner, the other half to O'Hara. But in the end he decided what high school he wanted to attend. This message has been edited. Support from schools has nothing to do with me or any other parents... Bad mouthing or supporting it.. in this area it comes down to politics in schools and schools districts, most importantly money. Other High schools sports > high school hockey when it comes to $$ and support. Sad but true. |

Trimback,
Just a few questions for you... 1. Would it mean anything to you if your son was on the list of top 25 players in the east? 2. Do you care that you are making an ass of yourself and, in turn, embarassing your son? (FYI, high school kids do read this) I know you bash anonymous posters, but I'm thinking you would have been better off as an anonymous poster for his sake. 3. Where did you play your college or junior hockey? If you didn't play, what hockey experience do you bring to the board other than being a parent? Anyone has a right to post - not saying you don't - for curiosity sake only 4. Do you know plym_20? Bet you guys could have one interesting discussion about the state of high school hockey in this area. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Coachk, |

CoachK,
You must have problems reading, I already stated I could care less about my son being on the high school list. He could care less about being on that list. My son could care less what I or any hockey parents says on here or at a rink. He would laugh at everyone and the hockey discussions were having. I have no clue who plym_20 is, only thing I can guess is he watches a bunch of Lasalle games. |

Trimback,
-No reading difficulties here. Thanks for your concern though. -I know you don't care that your son was not on the list. On the contrary, I asked if it would mean anything to you if he was on the list. I'm still thinking it would. -I didn't say anything about your son caring what you wrote. I wouldn't even know if he reads the board here or not. My point was that other high school kids do read the board including many opponents and perhaps some teammates. -You missed my sarcasm when referring to plym_20. You must have problems reading between the lines. |

plym_20 couldn't have a discussion about PA hockey because he was only seen La Salle play...he's never even seen their opponents play somehow..
