Jigga -- Are you talking about the play that preceeded the game misconduct play, involving the same two players?

No a few plays later, the one where the PV player received 2 and 10 i think.

Also Matts not lying, he was sitting next to me right after the scrum..

Jigga -- I actually missed that play and had no idea why the PV kid got the 10 minutes. I thought he must have shot his mouth off at the ref! So much for my powers of observation. So, I can't compare the two.

Posted by hkylfr: Just curious, if Haverford was playing in the time slot of MN/Perk game would Ferrell have kept his son out of a Qfinal Flyers Cup game prior to his own Jr. Flyer game like he did with M. Taxin.
Pat Farrell never told Matt that he could or could not play the Marple game last night. Matt knew when the FC brackets came out that this was going to be a conflict. To him it is the chance to play in nationals. That has been the ultimate goal for his Jr Flyers team and him for this past year. He was upfront with his Marple coaches about the conflict and hoped that a time change could be worked out. The district schedule was posted before the Flyers Cup and the FC schedule could have been adjusted to move the Marple game to the 9:15 slot or the A division could have played next week like the AA. I remember that Matt Sacks posted the general schedule prior to the seeding and I commented that there was the potential for this conflict. The problem is that the conflict only effects freshmen which narrows the number of players effected. The problem became worse when Billy was tossed leaving Marple short 2 of their better defensemen. But hkylfr rest assurred that this decision was all Matt with the full support of his brother (may not feel that way right now).

As for the game it was very good. As I thought Marple would make this a game even without Greg Johnson (get well soon) and Matt. Like the Springfield game it was a shame someone had to lose. On the slash to D'Urbano, there was a play towards the PV net and Rob was going hard for the puck. About 5-10 feet in front of Sutherland Rob's skates went out from under him when he tried to either stop or cut to where the puck was played. He slid into Sutherland knocking him down. As Rob started going back up ice the PV player 2 handed him.

hhfan- On the Fontanot penalty, he was not a "heat seeking missile" and the hit was not from behind. It was a boarding penalty but the hit was from the side and he did not bring his hands up to slam him. If the play was along the boards it would have been a solid check. The PV penalty on D'Urbano was more intent to injure in my opinion.

In the end it was a shame someone had to lose. Form the sounds of the other games the same could be said for them all. Like other parents it was a thrill being able to watch both sons play on the same team probably for the only time. I don't think I will come out to cheer at the beer league games. Good luck to the teams in their quest for the Cup.

And yet another reason there should be a split season.

Henderson/East

"Although it’s very good to protect your goalie I think it was of poor judgment for Latta and Cottle to get involved in the scrum. I think Henderson kicked themselves in the foot by riding their 1st line in the last five minutes."

Agreed, definitely had to give East momentum. Henderson could have had a PP but instead had their top 2 in the box. Maybe the East player would have gotten more than 2 minutes if they hadn't got involved. Don't think the top line was out the entire last 5 minutes actually was a weak line out for the 4th goal and was the result of a D turnover in front of the net.

My take on the Mattern collision was that the East player didn't intend to hurt Rob, but I don't really think that he intended to miss him either. He got hammered, flat out. All in all, it was a great HS game, the stands were packed in and there was alot of energy on the ice.

I hope there were some HS board members in attendence to see the passion on the ice and in the stands.

If they were there, I hope they wern't in the bleachers behind the goaltender in rink one to hear the things that were coming out of the Rustin's fans mouths. That certainly won't help the cause.

I have one final comment on the PV/Marple game. Notwithstanding the penalties, the majors, the misconduct (right or wrong), the conduct of the participants on the ice after the final buzzer brings credit to both teams. As I said elsewhere on this forum recently, they're kids...but they're hockey players, so they're good kids. They all showed that last night.

i caught the end of the marple pv game and the trip on durbano was a very bad call. I think pv scored on the ensueing power play. The overtime winner was a rebound in front of the net

the hershey and rustin game seemed kind of slow at first but the speed picked up towards the second. I thought that hershey was gonna kill rustin when it was 3-0 but i give rustin credit for not giving up. what happened to the glass at the end of the game?

The east henderson game was the most packed i have ever seen rink 1, does anybody know what the attendance was? as for the game, early on did henderson have a goal disallowed? thought the hit on mattern was very cheap, you have to try to attempt to get out of the way of the goalie and the player clearly did not i didnt see why cottle got a 2 and 10 but i dont think u can make that call in a game like that... it seemed that east was offsides on there 3rd goal but overall it was an exciting game, one of the best i have ever seen it was electric in that building it would have made an exciting last minute if the puck didnt hit the refs skate on the empty netter

as an east player sitting in class hearing that people were leaving school around 11 in themorning to go purchase tickets for the game was amazing, by the time school let out at 230 we had been curious and called iceline to hear that 550 tickets had been sold already ... emails went out warning parents to get ticket before a sell out occured ... as a player tho i wouldnt be surprised if nearly all 1000 tickets were sold

the disaloud goal wasnt even that ... the whistle had blew wen donzanti covverd thepuck and wallace poked his glove as he was picking the puck up and it went in the net ... the ref caled it off just to re-assure everyone ... i was actually chuggin water when carpenter ran into mattern but i askd him and he sad that when he picked his head up he saw matterns body and couldnt avoid it ... cottle's penalty was just though, he tried running in and taking carpenters helmit off to punch his face the ref noticed and punished him , but i am very thankfull the puck hit the refs skate cause i had the chance to clear it and give lamont the insurance goal... glad to be a senior

im sure that if donzati had gotten hit there would be a similar altercation from the east players. I always beleived that if someone hit your goalie you should take that personal. Goalies are like shrines, they are sacred and should not be hit. I also just heard about fights breaking out between fans after the game and that east fans were trying to get back into the lockerrom area and were screaming at henderson players, sounds classless by the fans, but the players on the ice handled the game well, henderson did not do anything stupid in the last 30 seconds which was good

nah the fans were standing right outside the exit to the lockerrooms just ass they always do waiting for us to leave to go crazy as we walk out ... fans never even saw henderson players because i was at iceline till nearly an hour aftr the game to wait and talk to some of their players that i knew and not a single player had left yet so by the time i had left not a single fan from either side was there except for me and my two other captains waiting to congradulate henderson on a great season.. best part about rivalries is talking to the players after the game that u knew ... after we lost to rustin and there were fights on the ice the daily local rreporter even noted how it was like a reunion of best friends once showers and everything were done ... cuz we were jumpin around with eachother nd stuff

Carpenter had time to drill Mattern with an elbow and a knee but somehow didn't have enough time to pick his head up and avoid him. A double minor for a cheap shot on a goalie is lame in my opinion.

If you leave the crease and go almost all the way into the corner to play a puck you are no longer a princess and you can be checked.
