Both good choices, Zeigler and Baker are in the top 5 in my opinion.
I would have to say either Lightheart or Lamont.
About 1/2 was through the season East moved Lamont back to defense and that seems to be around the same time they started to heat up. His speed allowed him to get the puck out of their zone on his own stick. Also having Lamont at D, it allowed McHugh (another very good defensemen) to bring his physical play in front of opposing teams nets and create all sorts of havoc.

I think their idea was to have Lamont be more of a "midfielder" and make things happen on both ends of the ice, and let Walton sort of cover back when he went up.

I spoke to Coach Cox about Lamont and we agreed that part of East's mid-season turn around was due to moving Lamont back to the blue line. He is a natural forward, so maybe positioning was an issue. Part of it was that he was given freedom to roam and to rush the puck when he saw fit.

I thought this was a pretty solid year for defemsemen. Wanner was pretty underrated, Hayden was solid, but I like a couple of the kids from LaSalle. Just strong players overall.

pick a lasalle defenseman and then throw in lightheart and oliveri, it is a difficult decision. your guess is as good as mine. wonder what greg martin has to say, he was an outstanding dman in his day and his input would be interesting.
that is what should happen..unless you can show me a goalie better than pyne, a forward better than berkle, schmidt, tyson, denczi or zoldy, and a defenseman better than varley, pascal or laessig. I'm curious to hear GregMartins's opinion as well
Hockeyisfun, you seem awful uptight for someone who says hockey is fun. i echo ranger's thoughts. tell me who you would place in front of them? there are deserving players all over the place but i could not envision that many better. besides i did mention two non lasalle players.
as a matter of fact i can name some... for defense what about mchugh of east, or blaker of henderson, or hayden of springfield, or wanner of stoga, and for offense how about milana who led the league in points as a sophomore, or how about latta or cottle or jayson ritchey who i believe put up 80 some points or moyer from pennridge or welch from pennridge... those are just a few who i beleieve as worthy of your oh so holy Lasalle team and their even holier players
Calm down, he's just supporting his team. And he is probably right that there should be a LaSalle player at least considered for each award. They were a very talented team.
You are right though that there are other players that are certainly worthy of the awards as well. You mentioned just a handful and I'm sure there are more names out there. I mean no one has mentioned Connor Brogan of the CPIHL, or any CPIHL players.

The only defenseman you mentioned that would crack the top 4 on Lasalle is Wanner on Stoga.
How can you not have either Berkle or Schmidt as the top forward? Both were top scorers in AAA play and Flyers Cup AAA tournament. Their team won both the AAA Flyers Cup and State Final. My choice would go to Berkle, but haveing seen both them play many times, they are pretty even based on skill.
The forwards you mentioned are all good players, but none accomplished more then the Lasalle players.
Also Nick Seravalli put up great numbers as the 2nd leading AAA scorer, and the leading Flyers Cup scorer.
Not sure if these 3 will all be 1st team Breakaway, but I dont think its possible for the 3 not to make at least the top 6.
Berkle should be a shoe in...He does so many things for La Salle not the least of which is his physical presence and defensive play.
Having said that I think the people who think LaSalle players should sweep the awards are confusing the depth that they have at the expense of other skilled players on uneven teams. For most of high school hockey in our area it is a 'weakest link' game, LaSalle being the most obvious exception.
