The GA vs Father Judge semi final game at Fac-Off Circle, 2001, was one of the best games that I can remember....also the HGP was Henderson AA final at Grundy in '03.

CEC 6-5 over Malvern in '99. CEC tied it up with less then a minute to play and won it in overtime then beat Meadville in the states in triple overtime. Both good games and upsets by CEC. I believe the Flyers Cup game might have been the last game that the great Gene Hart might have done play by play on. "Let's go Flyers! Let's go Gene Hart!!"
How about the dreaded illegal stick maneuver that Bethel Park pulled on Malvern, when down by a goal, they score on the ensuing PP, and then go on to win in OT. I remember reading how J.G. thought that it was a bush league move, but couldn't help but think that it was a genius move on the part of the B.P. coach.
I'd also have to call the first Serra victory over Radnor in the State finals as both an upset and huge ripoff.
Ahh the Averona Curve, might have been the best coaching move I've seen. Waiting until the last two minutes to call the curve was genius.
I never really know if a state title in an upest or not since its the only time the west really plays the east so its hard to judge. But yes 2002 Serra was a huge ripoff.

I was thinking of the "Illegal Stick game" but couldnt remember the year or Malvern's opponent off the top of my head.
That was an exciting game, I did the color commentary for the radio broadcast and went nuts when Curran tied it up in the last minute. We (Jeff Nolan and I) were so busy re-capping the Malvern goal that we didnt even see the stick challange and had no idea why Malvern was short handed until after the game was over. Talk about anti-climactic!
The B.P. Coach has a list of illegal sticks and posts it in the locker room. His forwards are instructed to get a look at the oppositions sticks during face-offs and report to him after the shift if one of the sticks matches that of the list. He will then wait for just the right time (in need of a power play) to pull it off. If he doesnt "need" the power play, he'll keep it to himself so that you'll keep using the stick until the next time you play BP.
Very creative!!

Speaking with obvious bias here. But in 2005 #15 CR South took out #2 washington Township 4-2 and in the semis beat #3 CB South 2-1 in double OT that game saw a few posts in OT and 1 puck actually drop down on the goal line for CB South before the goalie (Jake Dorfman) could cover.
OK, I'm old, but one of the biggest upsets was in 1984 Ryan vs. Council Rock. Rock was loaded with talent that year and should have won. Was Top Cat the coach for Rock?

I didnt live around here at that time, was Henderson favored over HGP even with Gunderson?
1981 Archbishop Carroll defeats a LOADED North Catholic team 4-3 after being up 4-0 North Catholic rallies to make it 4-3 at the 1923 U of Pennsylvania Rink and 5 minutes mysteriously disappears from the clock
1999 Conwell Egan was outshot 56-30 and beat Meadville in triple overtime on the Brian Tetley goal
2002 Serra over Radnor....my recollection of that game was how Radnor could not capitalize on a huge advantage in the play early on and gave up a couple of bad goals
2004 Archbishop Carroll over Peters Twp was a pretty big upset. Peters Twp started the wrong goalie [Rob Madore who is in the USHL Chicago Steel and signed with Vermont was on the bench]
1996 Near Upset St Pius X with 9 skaters and only 7 played nearly beat Bishop McCort, which rivals the 2005 Radnor team as one of the best Class A teams in State History, losing 7-5. Brendan Gallagher # 97 from Pius X was in the penalty box waving to the 4000 Bishop McCort fans in attendance telling him he would take them all on....I was right next to the penalty box, it was hilarious.
......And the greatest upset of all time was in 2004 when Matt Sacks was kicked out of the Serra penalty box for taking pictures and then abolished to the ladder at RMU Island Sports Center....
The 2002 Bethel Park - Malvern Prep was an upset as Malvern had many chances to put Bethel away in that game. The Stick call was interesting in the hand shake line as there were some pretty harsh words exchanged.
Three years later, Bethel beat Malvern again at Hershey and that Malvern team was loaded as well.
Hey Matt or if anyone else knows, Is Henderson the only one to go to the actuall Flyers Cup game in all 3 divisions, and has anyone else ever won aaa and a?
