what a great game not in quality but in sheer effort and excitement. both teams played with heart and class it was truly an enjoyable game. my only question is: why did the south coach choose to trap thereby playing to pennridge's strength instead of using their deeper bench and better skating to wear pennridge down with a heavy and consistent forecheck. i guess we will see tomorrow.
They did try to wear pennridge down using all lines and being aggressive with the body. Overtime is about capitalizing on mistakes. Pennridge seems to wait for an opportunity and then pounce on it when in the offensive zone. Their top players played almost the entire overtime periods!! Don't know how they do it
Sounds like a heck of a game, tomorrow should be just as good. I hate to change the subject but if there was ever a better example of why Breakaway's proposal for a split season would be a good thing, we have it right here in front of us.
I feel bad for the Pennridge kids. If they go to 3 games in the HS Playoffs and 5 in the club playoffs; Welch, Lighthart and Moyer are going to play 6 games in 6 days plus any overtimes and all three are key players on both teams. Even the NHL lets the players have a night off.
This is once again why league playoffs should be done a week before Flyers Cup starts. Aside from providing better and more accurate seedings, it also gives a full week off from high school hockey in order to allow the Atlantic District to have their playoffs without high school interference.
