Game 2 at Face off Circle saw Pennridge beat C.B. South 4-3 (5-3 if a last second empty netter was counted)

The first game saw Council Rock North Fall to C.B. East 6-5.....HOWEVER, East played the first period and a half with a player who was serving a three game suspension for a fighting major. The player, Moser, sat ONE game and he and the East coaching staff thought that was all the suspension called for. The SHSHL rule for fighting major's is three games.

With about six minutes left in the second period, an SHSHL official noticed Moser on the ice and asked in general "why is he playing, he's suspended" a call was put into SHSHL commisioner Ricky Gallagher to confirm that there was a suspension and Moser was removed from the game, The score was tied 2-2 at that point. East scored in the last two minutes of the game to break the tie and hold on for the win.

The Rock coaching staff filed a protest during the second period (when it was brought to their attention) The SHSHL board was summoned and reported to Face-off to discuss what should happen, and it was ruled, after about an hour of deliberation, that C.B. East would forfiet the game for using a suspended player.

Stunning that it took an hour of deliberation!

Alot of the talk was along the boards, before they actually went into a closed room to discuss "officialy"....it wasn't quite an hour of "official discussion"

I feel sorry for the CB East coach. He must feel like a real bonehead, which I'm sure he isn't. Hopefully, he'll realize that he isn't the first and won't be the last capable guy to blow a decision. Many of us do it at least once a day!

The coaches know the rules, it isn't like it was made up yesterday, its has been around a while. I think the board made the right decision though. That game was a gift none the less for CR North.

Dicky Dunn would have never made that mistake.

I was at this game and am friends with many players on the North team. North played like absolute crap defensively (allowing 40 shots) and their normally great goalie, Jesse Goldberg, had one of his worst performances of his career. Alot of the North players don't feel good about getting the win and don't feel like they deserve to advance.

I oan understand the North players' chagrin at advancing through East's forfeit. However, every team sport that I know of, at any level, has the same rule...you play an ineligable or suspended player, you forfeit the game. Case closed. Tough that it happened in the play-offs, but that really doesn't really change anything. The North kids need to splash some cold water on their faces, dry off, and get ready to play the next game. Same with the East kids.

AllOrNothing, Anyone that knows us, I'm an asst coach w/CB East, knows if we had known the rule we wouldn't have played the player. It was a mistake on our part and we take full responsibility for it but the rule is different in different leagues. USA Hockey for the 1st fight it's a game, same with DVHL which is the local travel league. DVHL sends a weekly suspension list so coaches are aware of their players' suspensions. DVHL even "creates" the rosters for their playoffs. If a player's not on the roster they create on the score sheet he can't play.

We blew it...not the SHSHL, not the SHSHL Board, not CR North, not our players, us as coaches blew it. We should have confirmed the number of games. We take full responsibility for it but don't insinuate we knew the rule and played the player anyway because you couldn't be further from the truth.

I want to say to poopsicle that the North players should not feel bad. I'm an asst with CB East Varsity and I found the North players to be nothing but classy about the whole thing! Parents & players from North showed their sportsmanship and class the night of the game and when run into in the community with words of understanding & support. I have a lot of respect for both the players and the parents. I hate not to be going on in the play-offs but for our players and for blowing not knowing the right number of games. I wish the CR North players & parents good luck in the play-offs!

Chochise
Nice to see you are taking responsibility as you should. It is a coaches responsibility to know the rules for the league they are coaching in and not assume all the leagues are the same. By the way the rules for DVHL are 1 game 1st offense 3 games 2nd offense and the season for the 3rd offense only up until Peewee. Bantam and up (High School age) they are 3, 5 and done same as SHSHL. So I still can't figure out how it is possible your entire staff did not know this. I guess you do now.

I'd like to say to Cochise and his colleagues that, if anything in my comment suggested to them that I believe that they intentionally violated the rule, no such implication was intended or even considered by me. It is unimaginable to me the the staff of any reputable program would do so. As I said early in this discussion, while I know the head coach must feel like a bonehead, many of us make the wrong decision in our work at least once a day! Tough for the players on both teams, but they need to shake themselves off and play on. So do the coaches, as you are responsibly doing.
