i just happened to be at iceline the night of the west chester east vs boyertown game. it was a good fast paced game but when it came down to the fan section boyertowns fans were a lot louder. for boyertown to get this fan support on a tuesday down at iceline was supprising. and east was not that loud and thats there home rink. boyertown also won the game they look like a good team. good combination of speed and puck movement.

i could tell you who has the least school spirt..... deffinently the Ridley Green Raiders , (as a student and player) i could tell you that the HS does not even recognize the sport of hockey, it is not considerd a school sport but rather a club using the school name.... i wore my jersey to school and when asked " what sport is that 4" when i said hockey they said "we have a hockey team?" lol

If you have ever been in the "green house" or ridleys gym for any type of game take notice that the ONLY sport that does not have a banner hanging is hockey. plus they would rather put guys swiming over hockey on the morn announcments.

it is sad to say that ridleys hockey team (who is a FC contender) is over looked by there power house football team , Lax and basketball team. maybe they can get some fans to show up for playoffs ..... (proly not)

J.W are there any other schools like this out there??

Council Rock School District refuses to believe that hockey teams' exist under its name. Yet at CB West, kids can earn school credit by keeping track of +/- for the team! More fans are one of many benefits of making HS hockey a school sport, but I believe that discussion needs its own thread(s).

Rhockey,

1. There are many high school teams in the area who are considered club teams.

2. I think you need to win a championship to have a banner hanging in the gym - just a hunch.

1. i never said that riidley was the only school ... i actualy asked for other people who have schools like this to post somthing because i was curious who else has schools like that.

2. In our old gym (new school built in 2001) we did have a hockey banner and yes ridley has won championships in the past .. maybe not the past 10 years but yes they have won i will get you the years and post them back.

the fact is that when the new school was built they did not bother to put hockey back up.

also this year ridley and Haverford high are the only teams in AA cen league that are any good. The playoffs are comming up. Ridley already took the first meeting 5-0 against HH and this will most likly be the rematch in the 08 championship

just wondering what school are you from coachk??

Rhockey,

There are only 3 real AA teams in the Central. Oh, and you don't consider Conestoga a good AA Central team?? They beat you 3-1 and have a pretty good record playing in a much better league. And when did being one game over .500 proclaim a team to be good or a contender?

And stop already with the EHSHL AA Championship / Playoffs. It's always a rematch!!! You had a 50/50 chance in September of winning that. You play in a 2 team league for the most part and that's called a championship? C'mon!

Go deep in the Flyers Cup and I'll tip my hat to you, but not until then.

When I was at Radnor we had 1 hockey banner up and it was for State Runner up in 1994. They lost in the flyers cup that year to a NJ team so they got to go to the state finals. After the 3 flyers cups and 2 state titles from 02-04, the school decided to make it "school sponsored" and the only changed I noticed was that the team now was required to ride a bus to ice line. I am not sure if the cost turned out to be any different. Like someone said above many schools have the same problem.

Back to school sprit:
On a regular basis W.C. East, Henderson, Rustin and Conestoga always seem to have a large turnout. But the most crowded game I saw this year was Sun Valley Vs. Chi Chester JV!! At IceWorks on Thanksgiving. Roman actually had a pretty nice crowd at a game at IceLine, which is a hike for them.

Mostly the schools that are closer to the rink, and happen to have good teams always bring a good-sized crowd.

Rivalry games are a different story though. When Unionville plays Kennett, any of the W.C. schools play each other, Downingtown east West, Ryan-Ghost, O’Hara-Bonner. Not sure what the big rivalries are in the Suburban league but I am sure that holds true there as well.

As far as chats go. I think Henderson is one of the louder but more behaved fans, as far as I know they don't do the "hey goalie, you suck” chant, I also noticed they do a "Woahh oh oh" chant like that jock jams songs.

East fans are pretty loud and the east east east chant is good, but sometimes they get a little rowdy and cheer after a cheap hit or yell, "hey ___ you suck". I found that one funny when they were yelling at Matt Milana.

Two games over .500, actually. And I think he was referring to the Eastern League when he said "only two AA teams."

And how far, exactly? I think with the very, very young team we have, making and winning eve one Flyer's Cup game is worthy of a nod considering our record in years past.

As for the school spirit at Ridley, yes, it sucks that tennis and swimming are more recognized by the school, but there's not much you can do when your games are at 9:45 in Havertown and the boy's swim in a pool located inside your school at 3:30. Though I imagine it's like that at most schools so...

Twin Valley is also one of the teams with out any fans. It gets kind of boring when your always playing in front of older people. No offense.

bad johnny....

i was reffering to the EHSHL with only the 2 "good" teams and yes stoga is a very good team they show that every year.

the EHSHL playoffs are a joke, the only reason i brung the playoffs up was for coachk saying that we have a chance this year to get a win 4 a "banner" if u read what was said up there ^^ .

as for the Haverford game and your 50/50 chance stuff .. that game was played the beggining of december i belive not anywhere near september u no theres months called october and november just if you didnt no. also ......

a 5 to 0 win is not convincing ?? HH had all there players and got shut out. (not ripping HH they do have a good team) just saying.

and as for being a FC contender .. check your rankings were right there if you havent noticed
http://www.icshl.org/Rankings/ranking.htm

Bad Johnny just wondering .. are you a player or just a fan and for what team??

A lot of teams have good school spirit the one school I think had the best in recent years was Stoga @ home in the 06-07 season. It wasn't big but they were loud. As for Ridley, we have a few consistant fans, some from the football team and another who loves Ridley sports, it's all in fun

Keeping track of championships is just carrying the baggage of past players. Let it go, it makes skating for this year's Cup that much easier.
