The Pittsburgh people are a long, long way from running the east.

So the HUGE NEWS is a HUGE BUST? Status Quo for 2008-2009? And beyond?

This is great. So now the baby has been thrown out with the bath water. We drop 2nd varsities for the greater good of merging the leagues and evening the playing field but now that won't happen but still no 2nd varsities for very capable hockey players.

The leagues are ultimately going to combine, it is just a matter of time. Elimating the Varsity II however was a good first step in the right direction. There is no such thing as a Varsity II. Varsity represents the principle team of a program and therefore should be the only team recognized as "Varsity". Although this is an age old argument, no other sport has a varsity II and neither should hockey. They should be called what they truly are and that is nothing but JV. If you are not good enough to make the priniciple team; then you are JV.

I won't fight this fight again but let me recap: Varsity 2s have existed for EPA hockey for more than a decade. Some of the stronger programs built their feeder systems to include a 2nd varsity. These were teams (& players) competitive with other school's 1st (only) varsities. I have no problem with "fixing EPA hockey" but they could have at least grand-fathered it in. Players who are varsity capable and were going to get varsity letters suddenly aren't. (Please don't talk of changing schools - that's just ridiculous.)

Matt - I heard from some people that some of the leagues are not happy about the merger. I know it's vague but in the absence of "News" you get "Rumors".

If the AAA league stands, what happens to Lower Bucks, that essentially leaves two teams (none if Pennsbury and Neshaminy go to Suburban).

And the whole varsity II thing again, if the powers to be want to make high school hockey look like every other sport, then Varsity II's shouldn't exist - No Question. Varsity II's more than likely have their origin in the some schools having large programs that had strong JV teams wiping up other JV teams, so the leagues made them Varsity II's, hell Suburban made LaSalle form a 4th varsity one year after their JV team beat the commissioner's coached JV team for the championship the previous year. (What other sport has jv championships by the way????). The leagues have long had a club mentality. The more teams, the more cash, the ice sold etc.

Do it all, no JV championships, no unpure teams, no multiple jv teams etc, etc, etc -

I hope that after they "fix" the Varsity II issue they fix the schools who play their best team at the JV level (Phoenixville, Coatesville, etc) and win championships!

So it looks like the natives are getting restless. If history is any indicator and things were going great you would be on here thumping your chest telling how informed you were. So your silence indicates a few possibilities:
- The merger isn’t going so well. As usual you probably have an interest (side) and aren’t going to tell us who is trying to screw who.

- Things are going great from your perspective (read the hockey gods are happy) and the rest of us are going to get screwed. No reason to report that.

If things are going well and there is HUGE NEWS IN HIGH SCHOOOL HOCKEY maybe you could enlighten us peons and let us know:

- Is this going down in 08-09 or not?
- What is the structure?
- Who is in charge?
- Have the PIHL By-laws been adopted?
- What are the financial implications of the new structure? Are our fees going up?
- Who is getting paid and who isn’t?
- What is the impact on Flyers Cup? Are there league playoffs?
- See the other comments with regards to pure teams. JV playoffs etc…any impact?
Your silence lately speaks volumes.
If you have a seat at the table of the hockey gods you should be able to inform us. Unless you are a tool of the hockey gods that will lead us off the cliff.

Man up!! Be are reporter or just tell us you are the spin master for the hockey gods. Nothing wrong with that just be honest. Dave Spadaro makes a living "reporting" for the E-A-G_L-E-S!! No reason you shouldn't.

Crusader,
I was at the meeting that talked about merging and it appeared that it would happen.

The only people to tell me that it isn't going to happen are anonymous people on the message board, I have no reason to think that it isnt going to happen at this point.
