you always hear on sports TV, "nobody deserved to loose that game", well that cases holds true here... Neither team deserved to loose and after 8 OTS, with still no winner, its obvious these teams are at the same level and both teams deserve the W... these are amature athletes, and their health is more important then anything... so if the refs and coaches came to an agreement that it was also for the players saftey that is respectful too, because a lot of coaches these days are to rapped up with winning then anything else... so it was a good call, all the boys look very happy in the picture

Like someone pointed out in the comments from the actual article - take a look at the picture and how happy ALL the kids are on both teams. Doesn't look like the kids were unhappy with co-champions, so it seems like they made the right call to me.

We old people need larger sized font Smiler

Ok to HHFAN yes I do think it would be stupid to stop the game and start playing again the next day if its only a one game championship. If that was the rinks decision and not the leagues than that is different.

Flyersfan, all of those problems could happen in any game. In reality this game wasnt long, theres hundreds of junior pro a college games a year longer than it. Especialy in Mich most these kids probaly play juniors anyway. No one in perfessional games gets IV bags before the first OT which is basically what this game would be for them.

N yes Boraske bold does hurt my eyes too. Haha

I think your math is a little off, 45 minute game, 8 ot's at 8 minutes a pop, another 64 minutes. So 109 minutes, that's 2 games and 1 period and 4 minutes. That's a lot of hockey.

Ahh your right, I have to stop doing math at 3:00 after coming home from the bar.

After thinking about it sober in my opinion the league really screwed this one up. As much as I dont like shootouts to win a tourney they should have made the kids switch to a shootout before they got "to tired to skate." Or they should have done what a lot of leagues do and go down a man every ot period till you hit 3 on 3 I guarantee with that much open ice someone would have scored.

Smiler Raha127, you are correct that this could happen at any time. However, the longer the game continues the greater your chance. The difference between teenagers and adults is significant in so much as teenagers haven't finished growing and their metabolism is much higher and they consume calories much quicker. On top of that, I am sure there was no physician on either bench with the proper medical equipment other than an ice bag, some bandages and other first aide equipment. So the bottom line is, why take a chance of serious injury to young men who have their entire life in front of them?
