Like someone pointed out in the comments from the actual article - take a look at the picture and how happy ALL the kids are on both teams. Doesn't look like the kids were unhappy with co-champions, so it seems like they made the right call to me.

Flyersfan, all of those problems could happen in any game. In reality this game wasnt long, theres hundreds of junior pro a college games a year longer than it. Especialy in Mich most these kids probaly play juniors anyway. No one in perfessional games gets IV bags before the first OT which is basically what this game would be for them. Is this better? Raha127, you are correct that this could happen at any time. However, the longer the game continues the greater your chance. The difference between teenagers and adults is significant in so much as teenagers haven't finished growing and their metabolism is much higher and they consume calories much quicker. On top of that, I am sure there was no physician on either bench with the proper medical equipment other than an ice bag, some bandages and other first aide equipment. So the bottom line is, why take a chance of serious injury to young men who have their entire life in front of them?
