I think a split season along with combining all the leagues into one big league are the only ways to really take high school hockey in this area to a new level. In New Jersey they have this system, and it is much more organized, competetive and efficient compared to PA.

With most midget teams playing a split season, any kid capable of making their school's varsity team will play.

How far off is this from happening? Matt, what do you think the percentage of this happening in the next 3-5 years is?

Good luck trying to get all the power hungry leadership to give up their authority. I think before anything moves forward with a split season the powers to be have to put their ego's to rest.

It really would be simple to do what NJYH does and end the midget club season for Tier 2 and below in mid November. However, no one (or group) has the right combination of vision, leadership and statesmanship to make it happen. I don't believe the road block is "power hungry" hockey people, because in the end all the key people in power stay in power. The issue is that the current leadership of the four key areas that need to come together to pull it off are "communicationally challenged."
