If he was at the hash marks, wouldn't freezing the play have called for a delay of game call? Or shouldn't it?

He didnt. He got it before he even got out of the scrum. That was the rediculous part, there was a pile of players all pushing and throwing half punches all with gloves and helmets on still but for some reason Cottle got a 10. He didnt expect special treatment becuse he is a better player, but he did expect to be treated the same and he wasnt he was punished more than a kid who should have gotten an intent to injure penalty and should have been kicked out of the game.

I guess now we are to the point of finding out why Cottle got the 10 would someone please call the referees and ask them. Cottle was right in the middle of fight it looked like he might of said something to the referee. Is this why Henderson lost the game? Time to get over it, all the teams have had their share of bad calls and some teams have even got some breaks, I guess Cottle just skated over to the East players and asked them if they wanted to join him at Stadium Grill after the game

From the picture I would guess that he slid or tried to take the forwards legs out (I've done this before and I have seen other goalies do this, an example here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5u0khFnHUg); is this what happened I wasn't there? The picture is not very conclusive and I just want to clear this up Sounds like this was a gutsy play by the goalie wile the henderson hit was a player trying to intentionaly take the goalie out. As a ref myself I would think that cottle's 10 would be for mouthing off. (It seems to me like that is the most likley suituation)

From a coach’s perspective… Most would (in a perfect world) like to see their team maintain focus and discipline. At the Varsity/Midget Age we know that doesn’t always happen. In fact, just last weekend I watched a Squirt body slam another player for touching his goalie. It’s a double edged sword, some players on the team react spontaneously from their emotions which is normally to enforce the unofficial rule that nobody touches our goalie. On the edge of the sword, strategically in a close playoff games some players may believe they should just bite the bullet and not take the risk of losing some top players and end up shorthanded which would obviously create an advantage for the opposing team. Again it’s tough to say what’s right and what’s wrong. There is a lot of what ifs but I would say in more cases then not, the kid who ran ( or accidentally smashed into) the goalie can expect one heck of a beating especially in an emotionally charged playoff game. Morally players feel Obligated to protect their goalie regardless of the circumstances or the outcome. If a player steps up to take care of business the burden falls on the rest of the team to fill the void, overcome any penalties and do their best to win the game. Just to add a spin on things, Some teams have the luxury of a goalie that will take care of business on their own. ( Inside Joke)

Im telling you I have talked to the reff about it and he said some crap about he was being more aggresive, not anything Cottle said. Yes it should have been a penalty but it should have been the same as the other 4 players that got put in the box on that play.

hhfan,
I've just recently heard of a PV student's death during the week of Flyer's Cup. Do you think this had any impact on the performance of the team?
BTW, very sorry to hear that it happened. We had a similar situation early in the season in our school.

<just shakes head>
Clueless..absolutely clueless..."protecting the goalie" is the biggest cliche in hockey today.
I've never had to have any player come to my aid, ever. It's a cop out for players who aren't disciplined to try to have free shots at players.
