In 2006 Garnet Valley and Springfeild were good. In 2005, 2006 Penncrest was very good.

There is no case to be made for Council Rock during the 2000’s., especially after the school district split.
However, we were the dominate team for a lot of the 80’s and most of the 90’s. We won three Flyers Cups, 2 AAA and 1 AA in addition to two State Championships. We were the most successful public or private school team during that period of time. We also won the Lawrence Academy/Groton School Division II Championship as well as winning the Proctor Academy (New Hampshire) Tournament twice. After beating the Hill School for three years in a row they did not want to play us anymore. We had a great run and the players were as good young men as they were athletes. |

Those Rock teams of the late 80's / early 90's were good, along with Tennant - problem was that half the Rock kids didn't live within Rock's school district. I can tell you that because I played with a bunch of them at Face-Off. That was the precursor of hockey recruiting. |

I guess Matt should decide if people should be factual when they post on this board or not. People should not be able to come on here and post lies or unsubstantiated allegations just because they have some kind of axe to grind. It is very easy for some anonymous poser to make statements and not be accountable for the things they say. Recruiting was going strong before Council Rock became good. We were no precursor for any recruiting. Germantown Academy had a student from the Czech Republic live with their coach so he could play for them. Central Bucks East had students from other states live with their coach so they could play for C. B. East and the Bux/Mont Generals. William Tennent had a goalie move from a lower Bucks school so he could play for Tennent. Everyone knew what was going on and as far as the leagues were concerned the students went to the school they played for, therefore they were legal. Council Rock was accused of cheating more times than Bill Clinton had sex outside his marriage. Every time some anonymous cat accused us of cheating we had to prove we weren’t. The anonymous accuser did not have to prove we were cheating; we had to prove we weren’t. Sounds kind of like the Mc Cathy Hearings. We were investigated by the SHSHL President, the SHSHL Vice President (because he thought the SHSHL president was covering for us) the ICSHL President because he thought the SHSHL was covering for us, the Atlantic District and the Council Rock High School principal (Jane Wilson) and the Council Rock Athletic Director (Denny Warg). Do you know what they all found, butkis! When the Philadelphia Flyers held those Banquets for the Flyers Cup Champions and runner ups all our investigators were there including the Council Rock School District Superintendent. Do you really think the superintendent would show up if he knew we were cheating? |

Like I said about I would say Radnor ’04 was the best of those 3 years. But Radnor 02 with John and Chris Brennan were the most fun to watch.
Springfield 03 and 04 were VERY good but since they didn’t make FC in 03 (they should have) and lost in the semi’s in 04 they won’t be remembered. For the teams I left out in my 1st post. I def agree with WC East 04 Methacton 01 GA 05- Stampone and O’Neill together were amazing. Didn’t win FC, Malvern came out of nowhere at a 4 seed and beat them O’Hara 06-Stacked team, but they were always in the box so they played too many close games Not sure I would put Penncrest 05 in top teams ever, they did win the FC but they also had I think 4 ties that year. They were the best “A’ team in the state but never really destroyed opponents, but played a very disciplined good system of hockey. PS I've heard the Rock cheating roomers before and think they are garbage. Top Cat is a stand up guy and I take his word for it. |

I never said anything about top teams "ever" just the past eight years.
If Top Cat was cheating in the late 80's, I would have been playing at Council Rock. I never got the call, so everything must have been kosher! |

No one at Holy Ghost is on scholarship for hockey, and no one receives a grant for hockey. All hockey players, and athletes in general, still must be qualified to get into the school. There have been some great hockey players, that just couldnt get into the school. If a hockey player at Holy Ghost has some sort of discounted tuition it is because they tested in the top 95% of their class, and they likely received some sort of academic scholarship, or they are on financial aid, which must be approved by a board. No hockey players are given unwarranted tuition discounts, because the school has too much to worry about or spread out amongst other students. Every school recruits. Whether its public, parochial or private. Recruiting can be defined in many ways. Wochele doesnt live near Lasalle, but it was still his choice to attend, and I would bet money he didnt receive any kind of tuition discount, he may have been persuaded by playing good hockey. Same with Pennsbury. Is that considered recruiting that they got Shawn McKay to play last year? They now got Ian Barnes and Alex Dobzanski to play this year. No its not recruiting in the traditional sense of the word, but they definitely wanted to get those kids interested in the program, and rightfully so. |

I played against Rock during their dynasty years. Most times, Rock didn't even have a full squad, yet they still beat everyone. They were just that good. I knew one of their coaches who taught in the district and he said there was no recruiting because he could have lost his job if there was. The majority of the players from Rock played club hockey. They had a great deal of ice time which translates into talented players. As much as I would like to discredit Rock (because they were so good) I can't. Hats off to them. They were just good. |

Do the players live in the district? If they do live in the district then it ain't considered recruiting. |
||||
|
yea, they do live in the district. My point was just that Im sure someone at Pennsbury realized they had some talented players in their school that werent playing, so it was in their best interest to get those kids to play. |

not only did most of us play club but much like the LaSalle/minutemen or Pennsbury deal we all played for the same club team. so if we were at the forefront of anything it was the same club same high school team thing. Which clearly puts teams ahead of the curve. |

LMAO...puleeeese, one name: ????? His family is not well off, especially to afford HGP and ??? is and never was a, how do I put this, a "A" student, so top 95% testing of his class is out of the question. Much less than "be qualified to get into the school". This I know for a fact. HGP Fan has blinders on if he believes in HGP's holier than thou reputation with no special treatment. This young man was caught stealing and cheating at school more than once during last hockey season, slap on the wrist all three times,and was still able to finish out the season. Any other student would have been thrown out of school. Besides the normal recruiting tactics, HGP fielded a underclassman club level team under the Glaciers name for potential players, ie. Robbie Hoffman. Nothing wrong with this, its actually a good idea. But this is why AAA Schools should be seperated from A & AA, who use a feeder system. Anyway, I'm not trying to pick on HGP, my point is basically, if there is a will, there is a way to get any player, whether you don't want to call it technically a discount, scholarship, grant etc. This message has been edited. He tested well, whether you want to believe it or not. Hes a good kid, just needed some time to grow up, and it looks like he has responded well. Financial aid can be recieved by anyone that qualifies, whether they play hockey, basketball, or are not an athlete, its need based.
The glaciers team was coached by the same HGP coach that was with the team since mites. Not all the players went to the school, but alot did, but most had left the glaciers a few years before high school to play tier 1. so it wasnt a feeder team. the glaciers midget minor team last year did have all HGP kids, but it wasnt a very good team, and only a few kids on the team were on the varsity AAA team, maybe thats what your thinking of? Its not too uncommon for a player to want to go to the high school where his club coach is on the staff. would it have been different if the coach was on wood's staff? HGP does have a feeder team for kids who are interested in the school and will apply, it doesnt guarantee anything whatsoever, I know a few kids, some who are very good players, who still could not get into the school. |

So the parents will save $13,000 sending them to Pennsbury and they'll get a better education. And I'm sure Wally didn't recruit them in the first place. |
