Do they cover hockey anymore? It doesn't appear that they have any interest in it this season. The Eastern League and ICSHL seasons are nearly half over and not an article so far. It appears that any mention at all in the in the paper is a phone in by a team manager. It looks like Breakaway Scholastic is the only game in town in Delco.

(On another note, thank you for the coverage Matt. Can you add more issues to make up for the appalling lack of coverage from our local paper?)

The only thing keeping it from happening is our budget. Frowner

First hockey notebook was in there today. Super 7 were as follows:

1. Marple Newton
2. Card. O'hara
3. Springfield
4. Haverford High
5. Strath Haven
6. Bonner
7. Penncrest

The article mentioned a lot of names and tried to cover a lot of games/people over the course of the first few missed months.

I know Chuck visits these forums, will we be seeing these weekly now as well as individual game articles now and then like last year?

Do you think Chuck smith is an O'hara grad haha ...they are always highly regarded in the times.

In all serious though Chuck does a pretty good job and i know tries to see every Delco team play atleast once, i think the times is the best local newspaper (not including Breakaway clearly)) with hockey coverage. I know last year the paper out in Chester County did their 1st and 2nd teams, but i think just looked at the Stat Sheet because some of players were def on the wrong team.

Actually St. James. He does do a pretty good job considering the limited assets the DT allots to hockey. Chuck's part-time and has no other help for the entire season.

It was good to read the recap of the half year and to see that the Daily Times hasn't dropped hockey. It also was nice to see Marple highly placed. They deserve it. Chuck also seemed to hit on many of the players on the Skatium/Iceworks based programs that are having an impact this season. I hope the Daily Times supports Chuck to keep this effort up for the remainder of the season, and that Breakaway gets a bigger budget so Matt can continue his good work too.

lol, thanks. We can continue our work on our current budget, we just can't expand to a weekly or bi-weekly publication.

The Delaware County Times hockey coverage has been to date, an utter disappointment.

Wrestling, swimming, basketball all get weekly and often daily coverage. Where's the hockey? My guess is that they won't pay Chuck Smith to cover or he's too busy and they won't take the time to find someone else to cover the sport.

The bottom line is that Sports Editor can't (or won't) allocate the resources and column inches to cover hockey and the Editor in Chief doesn't appear to be concerned.

What I do know is that I see hundreds of hockey subcribers at the Skatium and Iceworks every week, and they are not getting a fair shake from the Delco Times.

well seems to me if you want them to start covering ice hockey, why not start a petition. Or at least something along those lines. Figure all the players, parents, coaches, fans, administrators, and school boosters stick there name on a piece of paper, the delco times might listen

I think that probably is a good next step. People I talked with last week were really unhappy about the lack of coverage, some said they would call the paper, but maybe a petition would be a better way to go.

I was looking at their website for some type of comment box or something similar, but couldn't find anything.

I guess you could e-mail Chuck Smith too to maybe find out why there has been no coverage this year. One hockey notebook by January 16 is absolutely pathetic.
