ok, who are the best physical, hard hitting players in high school? who were you afraid to play cause you thought they would knock you out?

Off the top of my head:
Current: Pat Hayden-Springfield Brian Warner- Conestoga Pat McHugh-WC East Dave Baker-HH Past: John Brennan-Radnor Chris Brennan- Radnor Bob Kentworthy-Pencrest Tim McGarry-Kennett Ari Nuget-HH Tom Newman-O'hara Frank Cross-O'hara Dan Lassik-Malvern Chris Mace-Springfield Ryan Cell-Springfield Clearly i am limited to Intercounty/Eastern teams. |

I think Frankie Cross, to this day, is probably THE most overrated high school player in the last 10 years. At least. He wasnt that physical either. Since 2000, the player that had the best combination of physical play, speed, and scoring touch was probably LG Gatison of Lasalle. Tremendous speed, and great agility, so his hits were very powerful. Very strong on the puck, and played with an edge. Always very active, and had a good scoring touch too. Nick Averona and Dan Lassik 2 defensemen on Malvern were also very physical. I think Connor McStravick plays very physical, despite being small. Kinda reminds me of teh high school version of Steve Downie. Denczi, Schmidt, Zoldy, Pascal, and Varley on Lasalle also are very physical now. Another kid that isnt big, but can really lay the hat is sophomore defenseman Paul Burns on Holy Ghost. Hes about 5-7, 160 lbs soaking wet, and usually twice a game puts a much bigger kid them him on the ice. Doesnt take crap from anyone. He can really move the puck too. He'll probably be around 6-2 by the time hes finished growing, so his open ice hits are going to hurt alot more in the next 2 years. |

Two guys I played with, both defenseman from La Salle from the late 80's early 90's who would lay you out were Clayton Griffin and Dave Smith. I know the topis was HS players, but the most physical I ever played against was a defenseman from Millersville University named Bob Rishell. Knocked me out twice in four years. He eventually ended up in the ECHL for the Kentucky Thoroblandes I think. Big kid - 6'4" or so and could really skate. I'm sure anyone who played local college hockey from 92-96 can attest to this.

For current players I'd add BJ Blaker to the list. Blaker also has all the skills, abilities, and leadership in addition. You don't want to piss BJ off cause he can send you back to last week without getting out of breath.

Good list Jigga (Kenworthy???? He could definately hit, but didnt do it too often)
I'd add: (Off the top of my head) George Bannon, Henderson Jim Gibson, Judge Buddy Lawall, HGP L.G. Gatison, La Salle Nick Averona, Malvern Tim Wochuk, Malvern Pat Henderson, Cherokee Chris Lowney, Moorestown Tim Paulson, Penncrest Kevin Underwood, Abington Chris Costa, O'Hara (had a great hip check) Lou Hoey, C.B. West Ben Reynolds, Strath Haven Austin Cohen, Radnor Pepe, Reilly and Nugent were all big hitters for that HH team. I'd put John Brennan and Chris Mace at the top of my list. One of the best hits I ever saw was when Emily Clark of Episcopal hammered Shea Barr of Shanahan at the Skatium. Barr Skated over the blueline with his head down and she stepped up with a shoulder to his chin that sent him sprawling back into the neutral zone. Emily was about 5'4" and 125 max! |

I was going to add Austin but wasn't sure if people would really remember him.
Ah i forgot Wochuk and Paulson. Also Kevin Brawley Hiscock was pretty good for LM as well. I don't think Cross was very overratted, he wasn't a fancy player like Cauley but he worked hard at both ends of the ice and was very physical to an extent that he would lose his head. His downfall was that he was not very diciplined so he ended up in the box alot. |

I have not been around high school hockey as long as some of the people here but i would have to say that Tim McGarry is the hardest hitting kid ive ever seen, and the hardest to beat one on one.

I would have to put up TJ Brennan in his sophmore year at Moorestown...04/05. He dominated people that season. His last playing
high school hockey. |
