Winning Back-to-Back Flyers Cups is no easy task. Winning three in a row has been done by only Radnor, Malvern Prep and Archbishop Carroll. Haverford High is in position to win their third straight. Standing in their way is Washington Township of the SJHSIHL. Township has three lines of speed and they bring that at you all game long. Colin Davis is a spectacular player that will skate hard all night. He and Freshman Jared Emmett will see time on the point during special teams moments and are the power play catalysts. If you get caught up worrying about Davis….you might find yourself in trouble. He is an unselfish superstar who will take a hit and make a pass to an open team mate. Christian Biscardi, Cameron Rowan, T.J Dispaldo, Chris Fleagle and David Moore are all names that people will remember after this game as well.
The defense has been the question mark for the Minutemen, but they have been solid during the post season. Joe Scafisi is a proven post season goalie and will be reliable in clutch situations. Haverford has gotten off to slow starts, falling behind in all three wins in the Flyers Cup this year. They are garunteed a trip to the State Finals, as the West won’t recognize a South Jersey or Delaware opponent for the PA State Finals. If the Fords are content with that being in the bag, they are in for a long night. Hopefully the Fords will treat this as a must win game. If so, expect the first line of Campli, Haeberle and Karpinski to play run-and-gun with any of Townships three lines. Jimmy Hazelton will have his work cut out for him trying to shut down the opponents top forwards, as Township runs so deep, there is no one to really key on. (Davis being the exception) The defense took a blow when David Baker re-injured his knee. Shane Coyle has already dropped back to help the defense out. Mike Lowry, Coyle and company will really have to step it up now as the blueline just got thinner for the Fords. Goalie Jason Hazelton should expect 30+ shots from the Minutemen. If the Fords are content with their walk into the States, they are in trouble. If they play like a team that wants to become the fourth team to win three straight Flyers Cups, I think they will do so. Haverford high will win as the two teams combine for 10+ goals. |
