hockeyman -- It's been my experience that teams don't generally win championships without a lot of attributes...character and class prominent among them. Without character and class, a team does not do what East has just done. They've just beaten 6-8 of the top teams in the eastern part of the state consecutively (if I'm not mistaken). No other team was able to do that. To paraphrase Richard Nixon, who could be a very sore loser himself, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." East did. Henderson didn't. End of season.

And as far as I know from seeing them play, East has been on a roll for the last 8 games and deserves this Cup and shot at the State Title. Meanwhile, and I don't wish to be personal, Henderson hasn't been the same since Perkiomen Valley knocked them off in the ICSHL semi-final.
How where they not the same? In the two games after that game they won by a combined score of 13-3, than they ran into a hot team that got the bounces and the calls that night and lost by a post in the last 4 mins. That team being East went on to win the Flyers cup in a pretty convincing way. I wouldnt say they didnt play up to there potential I would say East has been playing above theres.
N congrats to them and good luck against a very good QV team.
Congratulations to East...If you can win the States A try to keep the trophy for more than 5 minutes. Talk to Nick Russo, he has important information on the shared ownership of the State Cup that the West thinks is exclusively theirs.
I've enjoyed the rivalries between Henderson, Rustin, and East over the years. For the most part they're healthy. I do think that it's important for the leaders of the sports community and parents of students and athletes to promote clean hard played events. The fans could be a little more creative in their chants while supporting their respective teams. No need for an f u Oriente, Ignatuk, Latta. No need for coins on the rink etc, etc...

raha --- hockeyman's original issue was that both the East team and the East fans have "no class". His authority for this opinion is being a Henderson player who "will never cheer for East." The exchange should be read with that in context.
raha --- I agree with you that Henderson played to their potential. On or about February 7, on this forum, I questioned why Henderson and several other teams were constantly being touted as the best, when it appeared to me that other teams could just as easily or even easier make that claim. Just a week and a half ago, I described Henderson as one of the top 8-10 teams in the area, but not one of the top 2-3. I was correct then and the now final record makes that clear. They made it as far as the semis in the League and the quarters in the Cup? A real good team...not one of the top 2 or 3.

Jackson was out due to a school suspension and we were missing Joe Nelson, who was pretty hot during the Flyers Cup thus far, due to a injury in the Perk Valley game.
As far as the game goes, we didn't really come out with a lot of energy it seemed and we couldn't get any offense generated the whole game. A pretty solid defensive effort by East. When we did get offense, Donzanti was there to make the big save. Lieberman played well, none of the goals he gave up were bad ones. One was a breakaway by Oriente, a 2 on 1, and a one timer in the slot. That pretty much sums it up. Good luck to East at States.

Rycur26 - thanks for the response. An honest and accurate account of the game. Greatly respected considering the circumstances.
As for those who don't want to see any of our teams from the East beat the snot out of every team from the West, regardless of your allegiance, my only thoughts are that you haven't seen and experienced enough of their actions to appreciate what it means.
As an aside, and perhaps a little fuel for East's fire, Quaker Valley's head coach Quinn was there for the 'A' final. He left half-way through.
i have seen enough of east hockey for over 8 years and have come to the conculsion, as many others, that they have no class and are a joke... after talkin to many players from other teams they told me that east is the least deserving team to accomplish what that have thus far... Karma is something i believe in, and believe me it has come on me in very negative ways, but i believe karma will be served and east will be smashed in the state finial... They dont deserve anything
