Since the board has been quiet recently I decided to remake a post that was made before the board was hacked. I wanted to think of the best players I have been play (I have only been watching since 2001 so I don’t know much very far back), I made a list of the 5 best players I have been based on their performance in high school games and than after 5 I just did the list by school. I deiced you had to at least play 2 full high school seasons to be included on the list. I think most people on here can agree that the talent level of high school has not be as high as it was a few years ago. Most of the players on the list played when the talent and competition level was higher but some of the more recently players I included I feel would have done almost if not as well in the higher competition as they did when they played. I only put players who are no longer playing high school on the list. Also naturally I am biased towards the Inter County league since I see their games the most, so I know I forgot or left off some players from the Suburban, Eastern and Lower Bucks league. Just thought I would give you guys something to think about. Chime in

Six players from Malvern and you left off the best one....Jim Gehring.

The best player from Carroll since 2000 is David Moccia

Other "Top" players....off the top of my head:
Joe Viscuse, Father Judge
Dan Meyers, Eastern
Tyler Stampone, GA
Bob Kenworthy, Penncrest
Frank McLaughlin, Bonner
Geaten Castiglione, O'Hara
Ben Reynolds, Strath Haven
Mike McMullen, Malvern
Lou Hoey, CB West
Matt DiGirolamo, GA

How can you not have Ryan Gunderson in the top 5? He went right from Holy Ghost right to Vermont and started as a freshman and now he plays professional hockey?

Only went by how they played IN high school.

I think if Matt did a top 5 it would be more accurate than mine.

I'll come up with an unofficial "All-Breakaway" for the 2000's. Give me some time to do my homework.

What about Eric Tangradi. He played at O'Hara and is in the OHL now and is supposed to get drafted 3rd or 4th round next year. He did only play for one year though.

Tangradi played at Carroll, only played one season and had 10 goals and one assist.

He's turned into a great player, but I dont think he will make my list.......what you do after high school or where you end up doesnt really play a role into "how good" a player was when he was here.

What about Tony Voce? What about Gray Shaneberger? Gray was recruited by Maine and destroyed the league.

OK, Brennan and Gehring were easy first team picks for me. At first I had Gunderson on the first team, then realized that he was runner-up to Curran for Player of the Year, so I couldnt quite justify that. So I put Curran and Gunny on the second team and moved O'Neill onto the first team (he is after all the only two-time winner of the Jeremy Adams award.)

I think the toughest names to leave off the list were Luis Perez, David Moccia, Lou Hoey, Brett Watson and Ben Reynolds. I guess I could come up with two more defenseman to round out a fifth team....but, I'll just leave everyone guessing.

I stuck to Jigga's thought of playing at least two seasons here before going away. And I only went back as far as the 2000-01 season.

Anyway....this is one mans opinion:

First Team:
G Kenny Wochele, La Salle
D Tim McGarry, Kennett
D Barry Goers, Council Rock
F John Brennan, Radnor
F Jim Gehring, Malvern
F Brian O'Neill, GA

Second Team:
G Dan Meyers, Eastern
D Bob Kenworthy, Penncrest
D Andreas Wochtl, Malvern
F Ryan Gunderson, Holy Ghost
F Chris Brennan, Radnor
F Michael Curran, Malvern

Third Team:
G Jason Mardinly, O'Hara
D Tom Ferrick, La Salle
D Buddy Anderson, Wash Twp.
F Matt Loftus, La Salle
F Mike McMullen, Malvern
F Joe Viscuse, Judge

Fourth Team:
G Frank McLaughlin, Bonner
D T.J. Brennan, Moorestown
D Matt Campanale, Malvern
F Paul Worthington, Holy Ghost
F Eric Tufman, Abington
F Tyler Stampone, GA

OK....in case you guys missed any of the Criteria

Tony Voce played one season at Ryan and it was before 2000-01

Shaneberger Graduated before 2000-01

Mike Graves graduated before 2000-01

My list only goes back to 2000-01 as that was the first year that I ever watched a High School Hockey Game.

i think he played 2, but he was not a standout high school player by any means. he really didnt get good up until the last year and a half.

you must be thinking of chase watson. he was one of malverns top players as a freshman and sophomore, then he left to play in the ushl. brett watson turned out to be a good hockey player, but he wasnt anything special when he played in the area. chase was by far a more talented player then brett.

No, I was thinking of Brett.

Chase graduated before 2001.

Brett played in the shadow of Gehring and McMullen but was the best two way player on the Malvern Championship teams of the early 2000's
