It pains me to be making this post, but tonight between 7 and 9 pm, the flyerscuppool.com website was hacked using a method similar to the one used on Matt's message boards last year. The result of this is that everyone's brackets were cleared. Because of the timing, many people signed up at the last minute, my latest backup would be missing approximately 40% of the people who signed up.

Since the vast majority of the people who play do so for fun and bragging rights as opposed to the prize, I have reset the pool and turned the registration back on. The prize will still go the person who scores the most points. Anyone who wishes to fill out another bracket is welcome to do so, including people who missed tonight's deadline. Everyone who submits a bracket will automatically start with 4 points, one for each of the games played this evening. Under the circumstances, I feel that this is the fairest way to handle things aside from just canceling it entirely this season.

I apologize to everyone who signed up, the open hole in the site that allowed this to happen has been closed.

Unfortunately, the method used to do this does not require a computer genius, just a little bit of savvy. There are how-to instructions available through google. I have to take the hit on this one, even though the appearance of the pages has changed, I am still using the background code from the first year of the pool and it was very much slapped together.

I apologize to everyone again. As a result of this, I have already begun work on next season's pool. In addition to the security, it will have quite a few other features such as the ability to update your brackets and drill down game selection.

The word I am hearing on the street is that Matt was actually 0-4 and he is responsible. (Before I get flamed, that was a joke, Matt was 4-4 and did NOT hack the site.)

Luber you have no reason to apologize. Nobody blames you for the polls being hacked and you took your own time to do it in the first place. On top of that once you realized there was a problem you fixed right away, which is more than anyone can ask of you. Thanks for all your hard work. Let's just hope this one stays in tact so we can get a legitimate winner.

Yeah whoever has been doing this must really have it out for high school hockey. Its pathetic... It takes a lot of work to get a message board or pool up like that, I had to re-do the old message board 2 or 3 times before I finally gave up for this one.
