Matt,
With the full slate of games on tap for tonight, have you decided which directions you are going to be stretching yourself yet? If we are in the same neighborhood, I will grab some wings and pass you the bleu cheese dressing for your salad. |

I'm leaning towards The Igloo or Aston.

I am scheduled in West Chester tonight. (subject to change, officials have been dropping like flies!) Perhaps a post game beverage at Barnaby's could be in order if you land at Aston?

Most of my picks seem to be in tact in my pool, so most of my predictions go along with my pool. But hers how I see tonight’s games playing out.
Predictions AAA ***AAA game of the Night*** Cardinal O’Hara (2) Vs. St Joe’s Prep Prep is roomerd to be brining loads of fans, so if tons of fans turn up it turns neutral ice into home crowd advantage for Prep because O’Hara doesn’t usually have too many fans. With all of that said home ice can only take you so far. As long as Coll, Stewart and Newman can stay out of the penalty box, prep doesn’t have the caliber players to compete. O’Hara can be their own worst enemy though by taking stupid penalty but I still take O’Hara by a close 3. La Salle (1) Vs. Salesianum (9) For the past two years La sale has run the best system of hockey in the area, last year they were upset in the semis by Germantown, I don’t see an upset this round. La salle is hard to beat because they don’t necessary beat you with their 1st line, it’s their 2nd and 3rd lines that can kill you, they are the deepest team in the area and that will show tonight. La Salle should be able to play most of the game in their offensive zone and move the puck around and take high percentage shots. Even if Salesianum gets by their superb defense they still have one of the best tenders in the area. I take La Salle by not a 3 or 4, AA Haverford High Vs. Council Rock North HH has started slowly the first round in their past two flyers cups and Rock North is the strongest team they face in their first game in the past two years. Still I think Haverford high is the strongest AA teams in the flyers cup hence their number 1 seed. Experienced players and coaching and superior goal tending should lead them into the next round. Two Goal win for HH ***AA game of the Night*** Council Rock South (7) Vs. Downingtown West (10) This is one game I don’t have a strong feeling about. I picked west in my pool for loyalty to the I.C.S.H.L and that I have seen West play more this year. From what I have seen West sometimes plays down to opponents but they played a close game VS. Kennent the 2nd time they met in the season so I think if they can play up to Rock South this game is a toss up and could go either way. 1 to 2-goal game in favor of either team. Cherokee (8) Vs. West (9) @ Igloo These teams are also pretty evenly matched. Cherokee has out shot most South Jersey teams they have played this year but as we all saw Shanwee lost, I still don’t think most of the South Jersey teams are on the same Tier as some of the PA teams. With Kinnerly the leading scorer out for Cherokee they lose some of that firepower, I see Leclair and the CB west team winning by 2 but controlling most of the game. Washington Township (2) Vs. William Tennent (15) I went against my gut this year and picked township to make it to the finals, I typically don’t pick the jersey teams to go to far because of their recent flyers cup history. Tonight Township is the stronger team and should be able to run away with his one, but like in the past the jersey teams cant always keep their cool and wind up in the penalty box, tonight I think is going to be a different story and township should be the only NJ team left in the flyers cup after tonight. Township wins by 3. Pennridge (5) Vs. Methacton (12) Dind’t see much of either team play this year but when is did see Pennridge they impressed me and when I saw Methacton they didn’t impress me. I’ll go with the higher seed Pennridge by 3 or 4, “A” Springfield (4) Vs. Rustin (12) What a year for Rusin, their first year as a school and a team with no seniors and they defeated a tough lower dauphin team in Central Pa. I think they impressed and surprised everyone with their play this year but it seemed to slip off and the end, I think Rustin is one year away from making a legit flyers cup final run. Although tonight I see Springfield ending their flyers cup run. Springfield is another regular face in the flyers cup and their 4 seed was well deserved. Their goalie has started to heat up towards the end of the season and they know how to put the puck in the net. Winning the central league is no easy feet and they were the strongest team. I take Springfield by 3 or 4, Kennent (1) Vs. Upper Dublin (9) After Kennent won a thrilling double OT game Vs. PW, I see them coming out tonight firing on all cylinders, they will be determined to put the puck in the net early to avoid another overtime game. I don’t see Kennet dominated UD like they did PW but I see them coming away with a 2 goal win. Perk Valley (2) Vs. Hershey (10) ***A Game of the Night*** Rematch of the game they played last year in this round, except this time the seeds are flipped, last year Hershey held the 2 seed while PV was a 10. Hershey came out on top last year in a 6-3 win. Perk Valleys anchor has been the goaltending of Charlie Johnson all year, and they managed to beat a strong defensive team in Penncrest on Saturday. Hershey’s defense is not as strong as Penncrest but Hershey is defiantly a stronger offensive team than Penncrest so they will be able to put more pressure on the Perk Valley D and back up goalie. I do think PV is the stronger hockey team top to bottom but without Johnson I don’t see them beating a team like Hershey. Also Lewis is back in the line up for Hershey so he gives them a presence on the ice that they lacked during the season. I took PV in my pool to win this round but with the recent circumstances I take Hershey by 2 in tough game. Garnet Valley (19) Vs. Henderson (6) GV took out the third seeded Shawnee last week in a 1-goal game, proving that they did belong in the flyers cup. GV plays a tough schedule in the central league and finished pretty low in those standings so that win proves low in the central league doesn’t mean low in the flyers cup. Tonight I think that GV’s run will end though. Henderson is hungry and their offsensive is superior to the D of GV. In the Williamstown game Latta and Cottle worked the puck around well and got off good shots. I take Henderson in a 3-goal game. Wings Vs. Pizza It all depends on what rink he goes to. I know I am going to see the HH Rock North game and the O’Hara Prep game at the Skadium so I will be getting a wawa hoagie. But I predict Matt goes with Pizza, it’s easier to eat pizza when you’re in a hurry. ☺ |
