La Salle up early 1-0, yet they've been shorthanded twice in the first 5 minutes, killed both of them off.

2-0 at the end of the first, La Salle outshoots Pine Richland pretty bad (I think 13-3 or so). Sounds as if PR's goalie is keeping them in the game.

4-0 now, 5:00 or so left 2nd period. PR has had 6 powerplays (including two 5 on 3's), so it sounds as if La Salle is beating both PR and the western PA officials. Goals were O'Brien, Schmidt, Zoldy, and Denczi I think. Pascal has a couple of assists.

Sorry, 7-0. Schmidt scores shorthanded. You have to hurry up and type these things before they score again. Schmidt has a pair now. Quote from the announcers "Pine Richland looks like they've never played the game before".

7-1 at the end of the second period. PR scored with 0:02 left in the 2nd on their third 5 on 3 of the game. I think it was one of Troy Loney's kids. La Salle is being described as a "twister through a trailer park" by the announcers.

Great job LaSalle and East. Wiped away the grins of those smug Westerner's freaking faces pretty easily it seems.

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see the postings on that Western PA hockey board. www.ushsho.com

I'm not sure what the final was - I had somewhere to go when it was 8-1 with about 5 minutes left. Schnupp had the 8th goal. But the western pa announcers on teh telecast went NUTS when PR scored with 0:02 left in the second to get the game back to a more manageable 7-1.

9-1 final.

I thought the officials did a great job in the first two games, but were a little suspect in the AAA game. Luckily it was the AAA game because it didnt matter. If it was bad in one of the other games it might have effected the outcome.

LaSalle proved something yesterday which will change the philosophy of teams who want to win the State Championship. The Explorers beat or tied 7 (DEfending or Current) State Champions this season by playing an expanded schedule with [Delbarton NJ, Fairfield Prep Conn, St Mary's NY, St Joes (Buffalo) NY, North Allegheny PA, Pine Richland PA, St Edwards OHIO]. Pine RIchland chose to play one tournament outside of the PIHL.

If Pine Richland did not have two 5 on 3's and three more power plays in the second period, it could have been 12 or 13 - 1.

Here was some excerpts from the Pa Hockey Preview
1 - The Rams did suffer one setback this season in a pre-season tournament to Mars in October, but that is eons ago for PR and this team has really gone unchallenged in Class AAA.

2 - The regular season schedule did not include defending State Champs North Allegheny, Seneca Valley nor Meadville and the Rams chose not to play in any competition outside of the PIHL, which could lead to their detriment.

3 Coach Wally Muhlbronner has ramped up the Explorer's schedule this season and they have
been on a joyride defeating New York Champs St Mary's twice, Connecticut State Champs Fairfield Prep, Ohio State Champions St Edwards twice in Meadville, New Jersey powers Bergen Catholic and Don Bosco Prep and most notably an 11-0 beating of Pennsylvania champ North Allegheny.

4 These are two pretty different teams with different styles and different approaches, but both very succesful programs over
the past 10 + years. A couple of things to watch for is the matchup of the Rams top line of Saad - Saad and Trombetta against a very discplined defense of LaSalle
and a seasoned goaltender in Dan Pyne. The other matchup is the very strong and physical LaSalle group of forwards against a smaller but tenacious
defensive unit for Pine Richland. This is a tough a game to pick as I have seen in 15 years and my inclination is that it will come down to which of these two teams is able to play both ends of the ice. LaSalle has pedigree against some really excellent competition and in my mind is pretty hungry for a Pennsylvania
State title.

PRETTY GOOD SO FAR

Their first two trips to the Finals were close and this one should be as the Explorers own a slight edge on Pine Richland. This game
will have some scoring and my guess is 4-3 LaSalle. BOY WAS I WRONG HERE
