The Old York Road Raiders Midget 16U A-1 team won the 50th International Silver Stick Finals in Newmarket, Ont this past weekend. The Raiders won 5 out of 6 games, survived a 5 OT 1st round playoff game and beat the Toledo Cherokees 4-1 in the final. Cheers to Coach Phil Pulley and the boys for being the first Philly team in 7 years to capture a Silver Stick.

The question is did the bag of blank jerseys make the trip to Canada ...if you know what I mean. wink wink

Ha, Ha. Not the first time this slander was said. We played both SS Tourneys with our DVHL roster -- just check the pictures. Bet you wish you had one of our jerseys. |

Winning at silversticks is a great achievement, congrats. However, when you look at DVHL, and you have two teams at 16A, no team at 16AA,(and I know the Kings did the same thing) and your team is averaging 8 goals a game in league play, it begs to ask how the DVHL allowed you to play 2 A teams and no AA, and if you knew the level of the team, why would you want to play A??? (Is it for trophy hunting????) My guess is the league won't let you do that next year.

It's simple math, the AA team last year finished under the 65% win mark (and was not in the playoffs) that the DVHL mandates for playing up the following season. Add to that, that there are 6 or 7 new players on the team from last year and we didn't know what we had. By the way, we lost to the Kings 11-1 in November with a full squad and tied the Quakers early in September. We also lost to a Canadian team during Silver Sticks. This message has been edited. Please the “we didn't know what we had" excuse is getting old. That was the same line you used when your AA team won at the A regionals and your A team played in the B regionals. Pathetic sandbaggers.

We (the Hawks 18UAA) were thinking about entering the Midget B Silver Sticks at the start of the season.
We probably would have lost to Lancaster. Just kidding. I don't know anything about your team but from the sounds of some of these posts..I'm just gonna go with "Congrats," and leave it at that. |

I don't know what you're talking about and neither do you. At least 1/2 the roster turned over from last year. We have 4 91's, 3 93's and the rest 92's. Pathetic loser. I didn't use any line last year. My son played on the 0-21-0 VF Colonials Ban AA and is one of the new players. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Friar00, |

You had no 16AA team last year and you had a good Bantam AA team. That usually equates into a first year AA team, but I guess having a plus 148 goal diffential at a lower level is what was best for your team. PP knew exactly what he was doing.

This post will be the last post in defense of this team.
1. It's no surprize that the top teams in any division probably could have played up. Just as the bottom teams should have played down. 2 Here's our record against the other payoff teams. As you can see we didn't blow anyone out and even got blown out. We were out-shot by 3 teams and the rest were very close. 3. We did not score the most goals and we did not have the best differential. All in all, very competitive. What I see there is the two teams with plus 200 goals are the two clubs who fielded two A teams with no AA. You do not seem get that every club that fielded a AA team is playing your top team while their first teams are playing AA. That is why no one attacks the quakers, hawks, or Blazers. Just call it what it is and I think most people would leave you alone. This message has been edited. Last edited by: joehockey, |

So the logic is, even though the talent of the Quakers 1, Blazers, Wissahickon, Haverford 1 and Lancaster was good enough to play up - the fact that they already had one AA protects them? Do you play up to the level of your talent or by the rules?
Having been forced by the league to play AA last year as a VF Colonial when the team was barely an A team I find this laughable. OYR Ban AA 06-07 finished under 65% last year we didn't have to move up - so we didn't. By the way, our 2nd team would have been a B team if the league had a B level. Should we have played AA? In hind sight, probably, but we are well within the rules. End of story. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Friar00, |

Why wouldn't you want to challenge yourself though? I've always went with you play at the highest level you can (within reason) and do your best not only to win, but to better yourselves as teammates and individual players playing at a higher level of competition.
Would you rather be 24-0-2 in A, or 18-6-2 in AA? |

The best part is that since your 16A 2 team struggled you will still be within the rules next year because your combined percentage will most likely not meet 65%. Nobody said you were outside he rules, we just said you should have played AA with the players you had. I think the team was well aware of this before the season. |

We were a late addition to the team (August). The decision had already been made by that point -- it was apparently a vote by the parents.
It wouldn't have been my vote but what does that have to do with our Silver Sticks and DVHL championships being unfair or tarnished? |
