Well there's a chance that 3 teams (Blast, Hershey, and Haverford) could end up tied for 3rd place with the Quakers and York finishing in the Top 2 spots. That's IF Haverford can beat Hershey on Sunday in Hershey and IF York can beat The Blast in Bethlehem on Feb 2nd and IF all the other games outcomes happen like they should; that's IF.

Before each game, our coach (Nick Slagis) posts the standings, the maximum possible points each of the top five teams can obtain, and the "contender vs contender" match ups still left to go on the locker room wall.

With that, I should have a better idea of how this is going to work out; ie if Hershey loses to York, and then York beats Blast, we'll end up here etc.

But, I've tried to distance myself from some of that. The pressure of Saturday's game was unbelievable, felt like District Championships all over again and all this off ice speculation about who finishes there and what have you only adds to it. My primary focus is simply winning these last 3-4 games, and whatever happens, happens. I understand (from the post above) that if we win out, we will make it thanks to a tie breaker so that is how I think (hope) the last few weeks will play out.

We could just look at the rankingns at myhockeyrankings.com to see who makes districts. I would gauge this by top 4 make playoofs. see below for dvhl rankings:

Rank Team Record Rating AGD Sched
1 West Chester Quakers#1, 24-7-3, 12.03, 2.55, 9.48
2 Hershey Jr Bears, 25-11-2, 11.89, 2.34, 9.55
3 York Devils, 24-4-4, 11.64, 2.12, 9.52
4 Haverford Hawks, 22-7-9, 11.29, 2.21, 9.08
5 Bethlehem Blast, 21-5-3, 11.17, 2.48, 8.69
6 Delaware Ducks#1, 14-7-2, 10.87, 2.13, 8.74
7 Hatfield Ice Dogs, 20-9-2, 9.73, 1.16, 8.57
8 Warwick Wildcats, 12-12-1, 9.53, 0.32, 9.21
9 Lancaster Firebirds, 7-11-3, 8.45, -0.80, 9.25
10 Bristol Blazers, 9-10-1, 7.66, -1.05, 8.71
11 Pennsylvania Predators, 7-17-1, 6.68, -2.08 8.76
12 West Chester Quakers#2, 6-18-4, 6.59, -1.82, 8.41
13 Wissahickon, 3-13-3, 6.37, -2.42, 8.79
14 Warminster Glaciers, 5-14-1, 5.04, -3.25 8.29
15 Valley Forge Colonials, 1-20-2, 4.98, -3.30, 8.28
16 Delaware Ducks#2, 2-17-1, 3.83, -4.80, 8.63

If Haverford gets in they earned it for their w and T against york, but lets see what they can do against hershey, and york is playing the blast.

It seems that way. Game was 4-4 and we pulled our goalie to get the win but couldn't do it. It pretty much sucks because if we hadn't pulled our goalie, we would have tied Hershey 4-4. So, Hawks vs DVHL District Teams:

Quakers: 2-2 tie, 3-3 tie
Blast: 3-1 win
York: 3-3 tie, 4-0 win
Hershey: "4-4 tie" more or less

Bottom line is we didn't blow it today, we blew it when we gave up 3 points to the Blazers and another 3 points to the Icedogs and Firebirds.

I am extremely disappointed.

i went to watch the hershey haverford game. i figured that was going to be one of the best games over the weekend. what a disgrace from hershey. they only scored all their goals during power plays. those refs were so bad i felt bad for haverford. also the quakers 1 team still has to play the ducks 1 team. that game ironically the refs did not show up at iceline and they have to reschedule. per DVHL rules, the visiting team (the ducks 1) has the choice to play the game with 1 ref (if showed) or reschedule the game at the expense of the quakers 1. it is not a forfeit! if it was then it would have been posted as a 1-0 win for the ducks and a big goose egg for the quakers. we all know ignatuk would not let that happen. does anyone know if the quakers 2 team forfeited their game yesterday against the blast? it appears so since the blast only won 1-0.

just to clarify - there were no refs at that Quaker game because they were not scheduled.
It wasn't a no show.

I feel particularly bad since I did not have my best game and feel like I should have had the first two goals, though at least one of them came off a powerplay. Last week I was able to shut out York on 29 shots, and this week... ehhh.

The officiating in the third was pretty terrible. It was the same last year. Final penalties were 25-12, Haverford of course with 25. We had to kill off four, that's right, four 5 on 3s in the third period, two of which Hershey scored on.

I am not blaming the refs for the loss yesterday, but they certainly made it difficult for us to win. As soon as it became 4-3 Hawks, the whistles came out and we spent the remainder of the game short handed. Ben Slagis, Chris Campli, Ted Carotenuto (and Nick Slagis for his team receiving more than 15 penalties) are all suspended for at least one game following some chaos at the end when Hershey went up 5-4.

Hershey fans were harassing Campli as he left the ice, one misguided fan in particular. This would have been a huge mistake for him, thank god one of our parents was there to restrain Chris as anyone who knows Campli knows better than to get him going when he's already pissed off about something.

It was a dissappointing end, and while I hate to say it, knowing our team, these suspensions will probably not be the last. (See the end of last season, game after we realized we missed Districts we lost to one of the last place teams the following day and Mandell D'urbano, and Geiger got suspensions for fighting majors)

I can tell you the names of some of high school hockey’s greatest players that will be remembered for their stupidity in their last game. People chose not remember them as the great players they truly were.

Thanks, Cat. That actually means a lot as I am pretty disappointed right now. I too hope that cooler heads prevail in these last few games but like you said, frustration can make even the best players do stupid things.

If anyone is interested, we kept the statistics all year long. Here were some of our leaders:

As of 1/19:

TJ Haeberle: 27 goals, 19 assists - 46 points

Ben Slagis: 19 goals, 19 assists - 38 points

Will Senatore: 20 goals, 16 assists - 36 points;

David Orlando: 15 goals, 19 assists - 34 points

Campli had 32 points, Contipoderro and D'urbano had 31.

Steve Boraske: 1.95 GAA, .9143 save %

Jay Hazelton: 2.40 GAA, .8960 save %

As someone who has experienced it, I know it's hard going into hersey to win a hockey game. I've never blamed reffing for any lose in my career, but Hershey is one place you always expected to be playing the refs and the other team. I don't know about anyone else out there, but I always experienced brutal reffing.

Oh, believe me, you can ask any player on the Hawks 18AA from this year or last year about the reffing in Hershey and they will 100% agree with you. What pisses me off most is that we only played Hershey once, in Hershey, back to back years too.

Last year we lost 7-5 I think? Our coach was again suspended, I'm sure other players were thrown out. I agree refs don't cause teams to lose, but like I said, they can make it extremely difficult to win.

Ben Slagis was given five penalties. When was the last time Slagis got five penalties in a game?

Attention 18AA Hawk Players: Cooler heads need to prevail because there is still an outside shot at Districts. If the Hawks win their remaining 2 games against the Colonials and the Ice Dogs they would finish with 33 points. If the Blast lose 2 of their remaining 3 games they too would finish with 33 points and would lose the tie breaker to the Hawks with the Hawks winning the head-to-head match-up. Of course the Blast would have to lose to York at home which is possible and to Lancaster in Lancaster which is also possible. We'll know after this weekend as The Blast play York on Saturday and Lancaster on Sunday.

You guys talk about Hershey having bad refs, look at the quakers refs one game there is no refs and i have heard that in the 3rd period the whistles come out and many penalties are called on the opposing teams. Haverford does have and outside chance but they are the one team that got screwed in the East/West split league, but it did not help that they lost to the bristol and the ice dogs and tied bristol and lancaster.

Goaldad,

If that's the case, can someone please tell me why we were gunning for the win instead of getting the extra point? What if the Blast lose to York, beat someone else, tie Lancaster and then beat us by one point?

It would be ****** deja-vu. (We missed Districts by one point last season)
