I heard that, because of the 70+ penalties in the AC Sharks/Hawks championship game, NJYHL reviewed the Sharks season record and found that they averaged 20 penalties per game. As a result, the coaches and players for the U18 team are banned from coaching or playing in the NJYHL next season. That team had many 91s on it so they will be unable to play what would probably be their last year of youth hockey.
I guess they could form an independent team, but they would be ineligible for playoffs or districts. Has anyone heard if the Hawks are being punished at all for their part in that fiasco? |

To me that is HIGHLY unlikely.
Although I'm sure they have the power to do it, I can't imagine they would suspend players like that for not one specific incident but a season of issues. That's typically not how supplemental discipline works. |

I was one of the ref's in that district final, and neither team had any intentions of just playing hockey. They played that way even though it was 2-0 for most of the game. Haverford had 42 penalties and AC had 31. I talked to a board member from the NJYHL the next week, and he told me that AC had at least 15 penalties in every game they played in the district playoffs. He also said that they would be banned from district playoffs next year but did not mention anything about being banned for the whole year.
I think if they stepped up and did something like that, maybe it would send a message to other problem teams or organizations in the future to clean up their act. |
