What is the real story about the Drexel Hockey team and why did the school suspend them for the remainder of the season? I have heard a ton of rumors from everything from a drunk coach to a flood in a hotel?

Just curious if anybody knows what really happened?

They were staying at a hotel in state college, and did a good amount of damage to the hotel. Didn't hear the drunk coach bit but I did hear the flooding bit. Them being done for the rest of the season actually messes up the ECHA playoff format, now a team will receive a bye since it has a 5 team league without Drexel. I also heard whatever hotel they were staying at is right near one of the more wild state college bars.

I wouldn't be surprised if Drexel dropped the program, no school wants bad press from a club team.

this is direct from one of the parents. coach wanted to stay and party up there at penn state. he apparently went looking for one of the kids and they were not in their room. he took the bed sheets off the bed placed them in the tub and turned the water on. he apparently has taken full responsibility but the school would not tolerate it and suspended the whole team.

So can anyone recommend a good school with a good hockey program in the PA/NJ/DEL area that local kids have a shot at making and playing outside of Neumann whose team is made up of Canadian imports?

Most local kids wouldnt make Neumann's team.

D-1: West Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Scranton, Rutgers, Villanova. Delaware is the best out of this group.

Almost any other school you can think of around here is D-2: St Joes, Temple, Lasalle, Lafayette, Rider, Upenn. Most teams have a collection of Jr B, midget AAA and midget AA players.

Look at Lebanon Valley College. They are D-3. Start making videos and sending them out to teams. There are a ton of D-3 programs out there. D-3 hockey
If he is a senior, he may want to consider playing a year of juniors. I also think the one hockey tournament is a great way to get exposed and it is right here in Philadelphia. One Hockey Tournament

Boraske, you'll definetly make the team. No one throws away good goaltenders if they don't have to. I had a friend who played for neumann and he was the 7th goalie on a 6 goalie roster... and I think he said there was another guy below him.

I've seen Delaware play. You can def make more than the practice squad. Have you heard back from the admission office yet?

You would think the coach would know better especially because his mommy controls everything in youth hockey. Pittyfull...Like I said, it makes you wonder.

Jigga, I have not heard back. Villanova and Delaware do not do rolling admission, and if you apply regular decision, 'Nova doesn't let you know till March 24, and Delaware I believe sometime in March as well.

Well back to your original ? Within the the Eastern Pa, NJ, Del, area Ill rank the college teams that area even worth playing for if you take hockey seriously.

Princeton Haha
Neumann
Leb Valley
Penn State main
Delaware
West Chester

Than theres a large drop off to

Scranton
Lehigh
Rutgers
Villinova
PSU Berks

Than I put Drexel at the end because I dont know whats going on with them for next year.

Theres also the DII and DIII ACHA teams like St. Joes, Temple, Upenn, Millersiville ect..
The hockey itelf is a lot lower a level but some of them have decent programs and youl get a chance at playing.

If I was you I would apply to Lehigh, it seems like the best situation for you. Its an amazing school and they have an ok hockey program and you might get a chance to play.

After than I would try for Nova like you said, the same situation but im not sure about there goaltending. Im guessing you would get to play at some point in your career.

Delaware is a good school and they have a great program. Im guessing you would "make the team"
and get to practice and everyhting but they have a very good goalie this year and they mainly recruit the goalies they start so im guessing you wouldnt ever get any real playing time.

Good luck though bro!

Haha yeh good luck, it is a great school actually my grandfather attended there and I was thinking about it before I got a call from a coach at a comparable school that is one of the top 10 ACHA teams in the country so I went out there.

I still head down to Brownies once and a while which you will learn about if you get in haha.

Boraske, not sure how good a goalie you are, confidence is a good thing. But, that Freshman goalie at Villanova is Kevin Healey. He was the NJ High School player of the year last year for the 23-0 St Augustine Prep State Champs.I've personally seen him go 5 OTs, with about 80 saves, to take his team to Nationals a few years back. And he had something like 70 saves vs the Jr Flyers last year, for the Jaguars. I believe his nickname at St Augustine was 'Brick Wall'. But i'm sure he'll welcome the challenge.
