I don't know how everyone else feels, but I am saddened that they are tearing down the Spectrum. I know it is old and outdated and it would cost a fortune to update, but I have a lot of great memories in that place.

I have two favorite memories from watching various Flyers' games and both games were against the Penguins. The first was on Easter Sunday for a 3 PM game that was broadcast nationally on Fox. It was a year or two after the Penguins won their second Cup and the Flyers were still pretty bad. We sat right behind the net and watched the Flyers tie the game with less than a minute left. The Spectrum exploded. Then the Flyers won the game in overtime and it was the loudest I had ever heard the Spectrum as a fan in attendance. The sound was deafening; I couldn't hear my friend sitting next to me because the building was shaking.

The other incredible game was when Mario Lemieux returned after his last radiation treatment for Hodgkins' disease. I was sitting less than 10 feet from the Zamboni tunnel when he walked out during warmups. I never thought I would cheer for Mario at the Spectrum, but everyone stood and cheered for him. I never thought Philly fans could show so much class Smiler but we did. The cheers were deafening and we stood for a few minutes cheering him. Mario acknowledged us and smiled. I was proud to be a part of that.

Does any one care to share their memories? Good or bad.

Me personally... I don't have too many. Just a handful of Phantoms games growing up.

My dad, on the other hand, probably has too many to count. I'm not sure if this is his favorite, but I'm sure it's up there. He was there for the 1976 game between the Flyers and the USSR. He still has his ticket. I can only imagine how insane the Spectrum was for that game.

The Russian Game was tremendous and Rick MacLeish tipping in Moose Dupont's shot from the point along with the shutout by Bernie to beat Bobby Orr and the Bruins 1-0 for the Cup in 1974 were my 2 favorite moments. Parent was just unreal that whole series; I think he got the Conn Smythe.

Will be waving goodbye to the Phantoms also?

The center can't handle Flyers, Phantoms, Sixers, and Wings.. plus all the ice capades, monster truck, concerts, etc.

It will only make things more insane down there for the games. It will be nice for people visiting the city especially opposing teams to stay right near the stadiums and have so much to do while visiting. Hopefully they revamp the exit and on ramps down in that area a little better.

I had some cool memories at the spectrum including some Wings games from way back.. The time they called the game between the Wings and Detroit Turbos for massive fight and the Spectrum exploding inside..

JFK, Vet and now the Spectrum.. nothing but the new stuff left.

Trimback,
I am a little bitter about the Phantoms leaving to be honest with you. I certainly can't afford to take my family to more than one Flyers' game a year and the Phantoms were a nice alternative.

Now Comcast has made it almost impossible for a middle class family to afford seeing professional hockey in the area. I think my only alternative is the Trenton Titans/Devils or Princeton University.
